Is something Burning in OC

J. Hubble:

New evacuation orders have just been given:

Holy Jim, Trabuco Canyon recreation residence tracts, Blue Jay & Falcon Campgrounds.

The fire continues to burn to the north east from Trabuco Peak to Cow Canyon into Horsethief Canyon and east into McVicker Drainage. Voluntary evacuation orders remain in place for Hwy 74 corridor, Horsethief Canyon and Glen Eden communities

Here is the new phone number to call for up to date fire information:

714.573.6202

A care and reception center is available at Temescal Canyon High School, 18760 El Toro Road in Lake Elsinore for residents.

I hope the firefighters don't inhale a lot of poison ivy smoke, and I'm not sure how they avoid it. A friend accidentally inhaled some while burning brush on his ranch and ended up in the hospital with a severely swollen throat and lungs.
That happened to me once during a camping trip. I had to get a cortisone shot because I was affected throughout my body.

And Jim, it's poison oak (even though it looks nothing like an oak), not poison ivy. :D

It sure looks like it picked up this morning... Smells like it, too.

I just heard that there are a lot of (FS green) fire trucks heading into Irvine Regional and over by the lake/OTH area. Perhaps staging additional fire crews? Setting up camp for a bigger assault? Longer duration? All conjecture, but heard it was in the neighborhood of 20-25 trucks.

Last night I got off work at 11:00 PM in Aliso Viejo. I had a very good view of the Santa Ana Mountains ridgeline. Did not like what I was seeing. Especially the intensity of the hot spots. On the way home, drove up Maple Springs Road to the Post Office . Seeing a red glow from that perspective was most unsettling.:(

Well, they are using Irvine Park as a staging area. I saw one post of 383 firefighters with a request for a total of 600. That would take a lot of trucks. Should be rotating crews back and forth, often on 12 hour shifts.

OK, good, I'm glad it's not something new. I hope they get those additional crews, and also hope the air-delivered fire retardant is full strength and hasn't been dumbed down by environmental laws. Not that I'm anti-environmental, just that I want to see the fire crews have every chance of getting this thing stopped.
