It's 1976 again! For the record, I had a great '76!

Ah '76 what a great year to be a teenager in So Cal! So many good memories...if I could remember that is.. :whistling:;)
My mother bought me and my sisters a 1976 Ford Maverick to share ( @SnakeCharmer ) you can imagine how that went, 3 teens sharing a car! It really was a pretty good car considering the plugs had to be pulled and cleaned every couple tanks of gas to keep it running with that nasty oil leak. But hey, I could pull them, brush the plugs and put them back in, good to go in about 45 min. Try and do that with a new car these days!
And Mt biking.... my old Schwinn Varsity cruising all over the dirt roads above Claremont, upland and La Verne. Even some areas in Mt Baldy! Can you say Sketchy riding?
Ah memory lane.....

I've actually been using a timber bell without issue for the past 3 years... AND I got a refurbished one (minor scratches or something...). Maybe I just got lucky.
Or maybe @herzalot just consistently rides chunkier trails that rattle the hell out of it until its death. Or maybe you have a better suspension.:coffee: That said, my suspension is sooo plush, if I were to install a broken Timber bell it would repair itself.

I'll see myself out...:cautious:

I broke 3 of those things in under a few months of riding. Lost the clicker mid-ride all 3 times. I gave up... Which is a real bummer, because I think they have the best sound and most carry. Certainly louder than the cheap bear bells I’m using now.

I consider them on par with Crank Brothers Egg Beaters for reliability.

Wow , Pinto wagon, forgot about those. Reminded me of our Corvair station wagon! Reusable , cleanable air filters, horizontally opposed 6 cylinder, air cooled. Ralph Nader loved it!
What would happen if a Corvair rear-ended a Pinto???? All those 'spodey cars all together!
So I'm assuming we have never talked about Corvair's...
After my Dad left Starksen Chevrolet in Lancaster in the 60's, he started his own business named Dave's Corvair Service. At first he worked exclusively on Corvairs because no one else wanted to. He made a killing. When "Ralph" wrote his book "Unsafe at any speed". Chevrolet stopped production. My Dad contacted Chevy and bought out all the remainder of their in-stock parts. He has a warehouse full of every conceivable Corvair part you can imagine, a barn full of engines. Sadly, all the rubber type parts are rotting away over time.

He has long passed on but my Brother continues the Corvair business selling parts. Plasma cutting fenders and roofs per order shipping them all over the United States, and selling engine parts, custom made engine cradle adapter kits to drop engines out of cars, etc...

Glen, my brother, built himself a Corsa 140 Turbo. I had nothing that could touch that thing as far as acceleration and maneuverability. That thing was scary FN fast. Nader had it totally wrong.

My Mom's ranch has probably 30 cars left in all levels of disassembly to include Corsa's, Station Wagons, Corvair Pick up Trucks, and Vans. Yup! Corvair's and Proflex are my background! :whistling:

Ours was the non-hatchback in green. Actually a good little car.

Not ours:

Family had a Pinto Wagon ... Treated us well.

Not much of a car guy... But buddie had two cars ... Built up 67 Mustang with a Shelby engine and 4 on the floor... But I liked this monstrosity of a LTD with a huge sound system it was called "The Rolling Ampatheater"... Burned some serious brain cells in that car.

That fan belt routing...

My sister had the 2 speed power glide automatic. She hated that car. Found it in Pick-your-Part years later after she sold it. Good place for it.

Just heard back from our landlord... as they were going through insurance they wanted to check for mold and asbestos as well. Good news, no mold. Bad news, former owners did a shitty job replacing the floors, so they found traces of asbestos. Getting all new floors though... but not sure if we will be back in for christmas...
