My sister just sent me 16 early STS mission patches, one is Challenger STS-7
G*d speed Challenger OV099.
I have an STS-97 patch and a STS-104 patch that flew on the missions. Keep those ones on display, i do.

Since we’re in the Free Zone, here’s an STS-104 story. I’m at the cape, doing a final checkout of the space station airlock, days before it was to go to the pad. Just making sure everything looks like my drawing says it should look. When I notice it’s gotten quiet. I look around, I don’t see anyone. Then I drop my gaze a little. This not-very-tall, fairly elderly man in a blue jump suit is the only one in the work area with me. I look at the name on the flight suit: Young. In his mid-70s, still technically an active astronaut, looking over the hardware too.

I was hanging out at work with the 9th man to walk on the moon, and IMO the best resume of any astronaut ever. One of those good days at the office. As much as I wanted to stop and ask for an autograph or a hand shake or something, I decided it would be better to play it cool and act busy...

I used to work with the astronauts in Houston. Every test day they would come and an entourage followed behind them. John Young would come on test day and he carried an entourage of astronauts behind him. Those were the good ol days.
You kinda got me there, I thought everyone bugged out and you could not find an ELSA
