What's the story with the bike sale???
Man, that's hard! Nothing about the broken ankle... It's all about the bike!
U guys at least 6 ft apart in that pic?I drove down to the OC from South Canada, but forgot my bike. @mtnbikej ran home for a spare, so I was good to go!
It was nice seeing the gang... Only downer was @horsebikerider didn't join for the suffering. Ran into @DBMX119 on the gravel bike on the way down. Coal Canyon with skinny tires would be a really sketchy ride...
18 miles, 3000 feet... I could have gone for a lot more. Maybe next time...
Back to South Canada with the top down...

That’s why my post had a smiley faceThe two on the left are father and son, but J was at least 37 feet away from them. I took it a step farther and stayed about 50 yards out...
I also fell over getting in position to take the pic... But even during the fall, I flung myself backwards, so as not to lessen the gap.
That’s how I remember it anyway...
Nice running into you guys today. I was planning on heading into Chino Hills but hung a left to check out Coal for "a few minutes or so". That turned into going to the gate, then up to the rock pile, then I was so close I figured I'd go all the way to Sierra. It was a great day out on the bike and the canyon is in great condition for all the rain we've had recently.I drove down to the OC from South Canada, but forgot my bike. @mtnbikej ran home for a spare, so I was good to go!

I had a maddening creak at the beginning of my ride today too. Thought it might be the clutch on the derailleur that has been giving me problems. I had some Boeshield in my pack, so I stopped to lube it up - however, I pushed laterally on my rear wheel and there was the creak! Hmmm, axle is tight. Spokes? Hub? C'mon - it's a DT Swiss hub. I pulled the rear wheel off and tested all the spokes. A few were a little loose (again). I flexed all the spokes and then put a drop of Boeshield next to each spoke nipple and spun the wheel a few times. Put the wheel back on and creak was gone. Bike was silent the rest of the ride. I still think the Race Face Arc Offset 30 is not a strong enough rear rim for me, but I've put off the inevitable for at least another day!Solo today. Started up Coal Cyn. the bike was making crazy creaking sounds. Pulled over to check things out, nothing loose. This noise was going to drive me crazy all day. Considered cutting it short. Halfway up, the noise went away.

Considered cutting it short. Halfway up, the noise went away. Had to stop again to raise the seat post. And one last stop for a final adjustment. All good now. Onward ho! Didn't bag Sierra Peak(top). Main divide, didn't bag Hagador either. Talk about isolation, no one around. Same with Motorway, Would have been a good day to try for a PR but who knew? Besides, I was in cruise mode. That's how I roll. Blackstar is a grind after 5k'+ but I was still moving at a reasonable pace, for me. The creak noise came back. Past Sierra again then down Coal. Great day for riding. Never got the heart rate up. Still had energy at the end. Should have bagged them peaks.

Nice ride Grego! Glad you got everything sorted out.
either that or another broken #8 bearing.
Uh-oh.I9 Hub?
Hmmmm.....maybe I should investigate mine.
I saw you on Santiago Canyon Road - and I think I'm the second American who knew what your bike was. I skipped Whiting yesterday for mud and sheeple reasons and sounds like I made a wise choice. Very few people on STT/Luge both my runs. Completely 100% empty from about the half gate on STT all the rest of the way on the second lap. I haven't ventured into Whiting since the "Stay at Home or in Whiting" order was made.Did my usual Whiting Luge loop from the house. Hit Borrego mid afternoon in the hope the crowds would have died down a bit, nope, sheeple everywhere. Had the bell on all the way to Mustard. Borrego is in good condition though for all the rain we've had, the stream had only a little bit of water in it. Mustard is still a bit of a mess and there is only one line thats not just a rutted torn up mess. Had a couple of muppets in front of me just decide to stop and shoot the breeze right on it. Move to the side ffs!
Popped out on to Santiago Canyon rd to see cars parked everywhere. Guess that explains all the people in Whiting then. Climbed up to STT, turned in off the road and a dude yells out asking if I was on a Proflex . Cruised over to the Luge, quite a few people walking and riding STT, what struck me was how impolite and rude the majority of riders were. A cheery hello was more often met with a scowl or complete silence. Had two people just push past while on STT without a word nearly sending me into the bushes. There was 4 others waiting at the top of the Luge for an extremely slow rider to go down, we knew exactly where he was on the Luge from the constantly squeal of brakes all the way down. I just chilled out and chatted with one of the guys while we waited. First person in the US that knew what my bike was!
Luge was in fantastic shape, massive thanks to whoever has been doing the trail work on it. Whole ride I had been on cruise mode but still nearly clocked my fastest time down there.
Headed back round to Santiago canyon and was trying to work out whether I go and do another Luge run or head back into Whiting. Chose wrong and went into Whiting sheeple on Cactus, horses are tearing up Vulture View by riding it in the wet and Line Shack is getting rutted out and overgrown. Think I'm going to give up on Whiting for the foreseeable future and go elsewhere.
First ride on dirt since the isolation started. Nice to be back out there!
