I Rode My Bike Today...

Hit Hilda Crooks Sat, did the Jackrabbit Jedi loop, I had a great time. My boy not so much, did not lie the entrance into Jedi and was very vocal about it. To much exposure. Today I met a few friends at Riverside Sycamore. Nice tacky brown stripe through the tumble weeds. Little over 20 miles and 2000' for the 2 days.

It's Monday. I rode my bike. Do I even need to elaborate?

OK I will. 3 drops, 3 climbs at A-W with N8 - including a drop down one of my faves - 5-Oaks. A little muddy in spots out there today, but great weather. The trails had that velcro feel to it that happens when it gets saturated = not sticking to the tires, but really slow feeling. I still had lactic acid built up from my HUGE Saturday ride, so I just wanted to ride it out. I actually got more and more energy as the ride progressed and, well, I had a great time out there! Legs were toast, but they kept working.

N8 set several PRs on that beautiful SB6c of his and was smiling as much as I was.

Bikes are fun!

I rode today.....kind of a makeup for not getting out yesterday.

Got out for a quick spin at Oaks. Took a while for the legs to warm up. Could have stayed out longer....but the wife and I had plans.

So anyway.

27.5 miles / 4200' ascent....

Interesting, we did virtually the same route yesterday and got 2200' of climbing. 5-Oaks, Cholla, Rock-It, Mathis- Rock-It again and out. The only difference is the climb from the top of Cholla to the top of Rock-It - definitely not 400 vft. Well, wait, there's the section from the bottom of Rock-It/5-Oaks to the bottom of Cholla - twice.

And I agree, even Monday it was muddier than I expected. I imagine it will be closed for a few days, so you'll have to go over to SJT with the Bomb Squad tomorrow - if you're not working.

Hey - I had that Fox Forx for a little while on my Jamis Dakar Comp... And those XTR wheels were Crank Bros before CB did them. Rare! And the combo shifter - brake levers that I could never figure out - suwheet!

Looks like great weather out there - lots of fun to be had.

PS - I have three spare saddles if someone needs one...(I'm looking at you, fanny pack boy). I spy Bontrager XR4s, so that must be a Trek.

Been off the bike awhile but was able to make it out for a Tapia night ride with a couple of riding buddies, James and his brother. James is a local kid who is not only really fast but he's manufacturing and selling his own lights the website is ethoscomponents.com he let me borrow one again tonight and they're sweet, anyone interested in lights give him a chance

Rare components indeed from 2009 on a pair of Santa Cruz Blurs. Good eye Hertz on the XR4! That is my backup bike 2002 Giant AC2 being borrowed by a coworker; my primary bike (Trek) also has the XR4 on the rear...Nevegals up front. Riverside's Sycamore Canyon is all decomposing granite and percolates very well during/after rains. No mud and no dust, but all three 50+ year olds keep schooling me out there. At least no dust.

BTW, you have no idea how uncanny you are with that fanny pack comment to me! Haha!

Oh... I think we can all relate to the "I told you so" from the wife. We're guys... Naturally slow learners!

Obviously it is not your judgment, but your tires that are at fault - unable to shed mud. You will need to get better ones. :whistling:

Wow.....looks like you rode Blackstar, but I know Skyline gets just as bad.

Don't think of it as " I told you so".....think of it as an adventure, AND a learning experience.

When started Mtb'in I did the same thing. Went from entrance to entrance at o'neil looking for one the didn't say "closed". Found it! 2 muddy miles later carried out a very heavy muddy bike. Ha-ha....it has also happened couple times since, and yes apparently I'm a slow learner. :whistling::cool:

I think my worst was coming down the Chiquita Ridge to the Tijeras Creek Trail on my Diamondback. By the time I hit the bottom, both tires wouldn't spin... They were more like skis. And I broke the rear derailleur and chain clean off... That was a fun walk home.

I rode yesterday with all three of my boys; my youngest (2) got a Littl' Trykes bike for XMas and we took all of our bikes out for a little spin at the school in the afternoon.

Today I got out with the intent of doing a Whiting-Old Camp-Luge-Whiting ride... and then the wind won. After being scarred by my sort of fail last week bailing on the Joplin at the peak, I decided I was going to go as warm as I could for this ride. Low 40's with sustained winds in the upper 20's mph.

I probably could have gone a bit more than I ended up doing (just a single small loop at Whiting), as the balaclava, jacket, and new thicker gloves my wife got me for Xmas certainly helped stay warmer... it just wasn't fun. haha. I didn't relish the thought of getting even colder climbing up to the top of the Luge.

It looks like the next cold thing I need to work on is my feet. Even with wool socks, my feet were one small step above numb most of the ride and never warmed up.

My wife says this was my Hoth picture.

I rode... First time since climbing up Cadillac last Sunday. I wanted to head out the Bell Trail to Caspers, but I made it as far as the little park before the first gate. My Garmin was possessed, and only showed 6 degrees celsius, which I now know is 42. The wind almost blew me off the bike in a few spots, so I turned around and did a Chiquita Ridge, Tijeras, Arroyo Trabuco loop. That was a smarter idea, as the wind was a lot more manageable.

@Cyclotourist - This spot should look familiar.
