I Rode My Bike Today...

Don't be scared. :cautious::laugh:

OC is fun.

The Bubble behind the Orange Curtain, to be proper.

LOL. Rox quit way early and I do not remember any beer.

Blue Moon?
Oh yeah - I forgot about that. I did the same ride a week or two earlier with a different group - so I am confusing the two. Here's the group you are referring to...

And that was the first public appearance of the Rail, pre mullet.

As for the beer - probably Red Trolley or 805, if any.

Nice. 27.5 FTW.

Who took that pic? There were only five us on the ride.

Got back out to The Dells today for the first time in months. The monsoon related rain many growth has made it even more challenging because it’s hiding some of the entries to the rock features. Add in some humidity and I was definitely tested today and was not up to the task about 1/2 the time. Still fun and a great workout.

Rode SART today, from the Post office to South Fork & back. Hwy 38's still closed from Middle Control Road to Glass Rd., maybe to Barton Flats, so no bro trains! In fact, I only encountered 5 other riders, all coming down as I went up. The bridge across Schneider Creek (at least I think that's the name) is gone, with a lot of water still in the creek.

A lot of loose terrain, and you know that one particularly sketchy spot where a tree hangs out onto the skinny off-camber trail at a corner? Yep, clipped it with my right pinky, & bob's yer uncle, went over the side! Luckily grabbed a bit of wood that was propping up the downward side of the trail, & avoided a loooong slide. Whew! Gonna walk that bit next time. A few downed trees on the trail, easy HAB-arounds. Mid-70's temps, can't wait for fall to ride this again!

Wow, SCARY!

I felt absolutely awful yesterday. Spent a bunch of the day laying around trying to kick the feeling. Near the end of the day I was starting to come out of it.

Meanwhile, @Faust29 was trying to gather a few fellow riders for a planned climb up the Front Range in the morning. I told him that I would try to be there to do at least part of the climb.

The morning came and I was bright and bushy tailed. I mean, like totally, it's the San Gabes Front range, who could say no to that?! I was in, fer sure! :geek:

I let Steve know that I would get a head start up LSM since I knew I'd be slow. @redwoods joined in with Steve for the adventure. I made my way up the steepness at a decent pace, playing tag with hikers along the way. I reached the top of the trail and relaxed for a few minutes. No sign of the boys coming yet so I carried on with the climb, on Echo Mtn trail. The dreaded sun was now baking parts of the mountain ahead of me so I stopped mid way up in the shade and sat on an overlook to see if I could see them coming. Nope, and the sun eventually reached my spot so I finished the climb and just a few mins after I reached the pavement, they caught up to me. I was feeling pretty good so I decided to keep going up with them but I started to feel fatigue not long afterward. When we reached Idlehour TH, I let them know that this was the end of the climb for me. We chatted for a few mins and then they set off for higher elevations. Meanwhile, I pedaled out to Inspiration Point to relax under the awning, have a snack, and enjoy the views. Lots of trail users out today!

Once I was rested up, I backtracked to Middle Merrill and dropped in. Kind of spooky riding that trail under canopy alone. I made it out to the lookout and then the fun began. Cleaned all the good stuff, walked a few that I won't dare try. Stupid me, I locked the rear suspension instead of opening it up and I took a BEATING coming down for it.

I could hear hoots and hollers all he way down from the many other riders who were rolling through there today. When I reached the end, it was time to do the Echo Mtn trail climb again. It hurt a little but but not bad.

Next, it was time to drop in on Sunset Ridge trail with all of it's high speed glory. I had a good pass through there and encountered just a few hikers coming up.

The final decision of the ride was to decide if I felt up to dropping down Lower Sunset, passing through Millard CG, and climbing up and out to El P. I was not up to it so I dropped down Horsey and caught big air on the first gap jump. When that was done, it was mostly a DH blast down the pavement back to where I parked near El P.

16.63 miles
3396' gain

Definitely one of my favorite rides in SoCal.

I rode my bike today! Woo hoo! :D

@redwoods and I chased @SnakeCharmer up the front side of the mountain... We eventually caught up at the Mount Lowe Road and continued up the mountain as a trio.

As said above, Snake Man bailed at Inspiration Point and headed down the heart of the front range. Pat and I continued on... All the way to the Cosmic Cafe for a decent break.

Then 5 miles of high speed road DH, and 13 miles of Gabrielino. With the recent trail work and brushing, the Gab was running really well.

Here's a taste... One of my favorite sections of the Gabrielino. This is the first DH past the Bear Canyon split. It's the section I told @DangerDirtyD not to crash on the low side during our rainy night ride last year. The video shows why that's a rule, and not a suggestion.

We ended up with about 34 miles and 5700 feet up and down... Good day in the mountains. Tacos after... :inlove:

Sitting here we could see the towers at Mount Wilson, where we were only a couple hours before...

Unfortunately I couldn't join the lads for their romp up north so I made do with a quick Harding, Joplin Luge loop from the front door. The youngest managed to pick up a non covid lurgy from the fetid peach tree dish that is child care so I was on strict instructions not to head to far from home. Hit the frog and toad (road) at 6:20, saw no one until about the 4 mile marker on Harding, I think he was as surprised to see me as I was him.
The views on Harding were epic once I got above the clouds.
Found two walkers up at 4 corners, a 4x by on the run down to the Joplin trailhead and 1 group of runners on the way down Joplin itself.
I'd set myself a goal to try and do the full loop under 3 hours but things didn't quite work out that way. A bunch of kermits on e-bikes forced me into the bushes on STT, I lost a bunch of time whilst waiting for the various stragglers to use their motors to maximum effort, and then topped that of with a puncture somewhere on the Luge. Plugged the tyre with a dart and put some air in it but it wouldn't seal completely. I ended up nursing the bike home on a rear tyre that held a whopping 8psi, cornering was interesting even on the road.
Unfortunately didn't quite hit my goal time due to the unplanned stops, but was only 5 minutes off so its certainly achievable.

The rear tyres toast, I plugged the hole in the tread but its gone at the bead as well.

Still a great day, stoked with the progress I've been making recently. Just shy of 160mi and 30.000ft for the last 2 weeks.

1:50 - holy schnikes! Am I wrong in thinking that exact section is actually more rideable than it used to be? I'm sure I walked it last time (and probably still would), but if it's where I think it is I felt like we all walked it, and carefully at that.

I don't think I've ever walked anything on that section... It's a fun little dip. The camera probably makes it look worse than it is. :whistling: :D

Come on up for a turn! The Gab is running really nice right now...

Edit: And if anyone is looking for a lost Hyundai Genesis key on the front range:

Sounds like some adventure down there in da OC!

Didn't lose a genesis key, but did lose something else....

Did my usual ride for a Sunday. It was a good, fast ( not kiwi fast ) romp through Whiting. Was feeling pretty good, climbing well, quick descent with a little slow down when coming up on a couple random riders.

Arrived home, went to turn off strava and.. no phone... pockets open. Uh oh. Probably left it in the garage. Nope...the house? Nope. Then looked and the zipper on the cell pocket and it was broken. ( the Tasco shorts are over a year old, wonder if they'll warranty them) Ah crap, phone is launched somewhere on the trail. Oh hey find my phone! Uh no.... I use 2fA and it's the device for it. Not signed in on any other device either. :( so effectively dead in the water until I get access to my phone number.

So off to get a new phone. What a freaking pain. Couldn't get on google or download apps on the new phone because I couldn't sign in because I didn't have the old phone. Finally with the phone number on the new phone and a second computer ( and a few hours wasted) was able to get it up and running.

Moral to the story? I don't know, but having to have a cell phone kinda sucks, and don't lose it. Except for the ride, a wasted day . now to reset every single password

Damn…

I had to get a new phone a couple weeks back, because I killed another one. My purchase experience was a lot smoother than yours, though. That blows…
