Hip Hip Hooray! (Hip issues)

Update. One week tomorrow.

All is well. Stiff, swollen and sore - and so is my hip and leg! :Roflmao

But walking around without a cane. Sleeping better than pre-surgery. No pain killers. I do use a cane for longer walks and trips out into civilization.

Blessed and lucky.

Memorial Day ride anyone? Last year it was Jackson Lake (Wrightwood) if I recall. I'm in!

Maybe @Obsidian will come out of hiding. Did the Libs chase him away? That seems very un "Lion" like.

Oh yah this is good! Herzy planning a ride already. If you are good by then I am in too!
Hope you are using the ice pump!

I visited my surgeon yesterday. They took an X Ray. Yup, they really did cut off the head of my femur and put some mechanical parts in there! Still not sure why it didn't hurt.

I went back to work today 1/2 day. No cane. No walker. No drugs. Leg swelled a little, and that's really the only pain I am experiencing - somewhere between a charley horse and a tight tourniquet - for a short period of time when I stand up after being seated a while. The pressure goes away in about 30 seconds.

I checked with my vascular surgeon. Ultrasound showed no blood clot this time. All good.

Now I need to take it easy - only short walks and some mild leg exercises - for about 4 more weeks while the bone fuses around the inserts.

I told doc my goal of mt biking by Memorial Day. He says that's feasible.

Almost 6-week checkup with surgeon yesterday...

All good. Cleared to start riding, surfing and physical therapy for increased strength and mobility. The hip feels amazing.

But about my back. My adoring fans will recall that I had an emergency laminectomy back in January of 2022 after rupturing a disk. My back has been wonderful since then, although a bit unstable. Well I think my back was jealous of all the attention my hip was getting because my back went south a couple of weeks ago, and I have struggled to get that under control. I am hoping it's temporary and not a sign of additional damage. I have a hunch this is how the next phase of life will go - balancing periods of well-being with periods of body betrayal. Sweet! :bang:

I'll pedal around the 'hood this weekend and report back (to the two of you who read this post).

That’s some great news with the hip!!! Sounds like the recovery is moving right along. The disc and back issues might just be the anatomy settling in and finding its new place.
Don’t overdo things, but when the time is right, get that board back out to San’O Trails!

Good news Herz!

See I told you mountain bikers were tough and heal faster than normal schmucks .
As for the back hopefully it’ll stretch out and feel better after an easy pedal with your bars set an inch or so below your saddle height . Just be sure not to ride your SS XC hardtail …:Roflmao

Yes - femurs are supposed to be straight. And they are not supposed to be striped.
