2 year anniversary of my helicopter ride!

I still feel the plate and screws every minute of every day. They don't hurt, but they remind me of their presence constantly. I would have them removed if I could tolerate the idea of healing for 3 months without riding, surfing or skiing/snowboarding.

And with my Jan 5th 2022 back surgery, all of this thread seems like child's play. Well, actually, it was.

For a moment I thought it was a new thread.

Today I clipped a pedal and went OTB.. very little damage to me or bike... But kinda scared the crap out me, could have been MUCH worse just missed landing hard on my a big edgy rock... Just clipped my helmet.

On lizards not even on the harder part.

I've not been on the bike as much... Holy crap trails are beaten up!

Let's all keep the rubber side down...

One of the worst texts I've ever received... And I've had some doozies!

#1 rule of mtn biking: crash happens, you can crash anytime anywhere. The best we can do is eliminate the 10% of the places where the chances are the greatest. call that my 90-10 policy.

Sure I can make that 99% of the time, well maybe dismount and walk down that one and make it 99.9. My last crash that gave blood was on one of those, I passed the stop point and went in. I tried one more time to stop, went OTB and hit my nose on a rock. In retrospect if you miss your offramp it is better to ride it out than trying to not ride it.

With all the injuries lately, it's hard for me not to look at things differently. These guys are all better riders than me, and they're getting taken out like flies.

You could have at least been extra helpful by giving him some sh*t for getting injured. Like asking how long he'll be volunteering as shuttle driver, or pointing out that you could take his bike since he won't be needing it anymore : )

My worst crashes have been on the easiest sections of trail. If I followed your approach I'd have to stop riding entirely. That's about when the heart attack would take me out.

my 2021 crash was on the easiest part of the local trail. Nonchalant, I was just cranking big ring little cassette and bam, I did not know what even happened. ANYWHERE-any time, but there are places where it becomes much more technical to the point where you have crashed at that spot before, probably more than once. Those are the crashes that can be avoided. Of course you will make it 90 out of 100 times but I a tired of crashes, even minor ones. Trying to not bleed as much. Shoot I do not even crouch down looking for jumps anymore, well sometimes I do.
