Gas...

While on our road ride the other day, @SnakeCharmer and I passed a gas station with insane prices... $4.99 for diesel, and premium was about the same. I mentioned that to my brother on the phone today. He always asks what we're paying... :cautious:

They are paying just over a $1.00/gallon in Western NY, and there is presently a price war on the Indian reservation in Salamanca... near the Allegheny National Forest. Two shops that are vying for "lowest" in town. Needless to say it's drawn quite a crowd. Not cool at this time...

Can you imagine...

That's crazy, but there's such a disparity even among local prices as well. Regular gas from various ARCO stores on the West end of the valley is $2.99 or less. I'm super stoked that I bought an electric car just in time for gas prices to plummet as my electric bill sky rockets.

California is a leading producer of crude, (2 or 3 in the nation) California is the biggest refiner in the western states. California is financing a high speed train from nowhere to no place. It is expected to be finished about 2099. California pays for the train with a variable carbon footprint tax. Add that to the graft and corruption, the lining of union pockets, the indexed pensions that never stop their hunger of taxpayer money and you get $1.00 gas for 3 bucks

I think it's been a month since any of our cars have seen a gas pump.
Do you still need to turn on a car and give it a spin around the block just to keep everything going and seals lubed? And, what about hybrids?

I'd probably fire up once every week or two and do that. Mainly want to keep the battery charged along with keeping things lubed. I've started driven cars that have sat for years, but seals and other lubed items can definitely start to dry out and have issues down the road.

There's so much tax on CA gas now, it will never get as low as other states.

I left my motorcycle parked for months while out to sea, fired right up when I get home.

Leaving it shut down isn't as bad for it as back in the days. For one, our seals are better now. Two, gasoline stays stable longer. And three, the condensation that builds up isn't damaging at all. However, the condensation that builds up from combustion gases is acidic, and will damage your engine. So if you are going to start it up randomly, take it for a drive and get it hot. But...the buffers in modern oil take care of most of that so it still isn't a big issue.

California gas tax is like 60 cents a gallon. Kern county produces most of the oil in California, but we have the highest gas prices which to me is crazy.

Depending on location, not a bad idea to be sure your car is not becoming habitat for animals. It doesn't take long at all once they get the idea.

I had a bird's nest on top of the battery under the hood, but rodents are the worst. Hope that they just nest and have babies and not chew the wiring! Right now is the time of year. Yes, they can get in your cab, glove box and anywhere if they're determined...

The life of the serial telecommuter. How ya like it, peeples???? :geek::thumbsup:

The wsj is saying we might see negative oil prices, the wells can’t stop pumping fast enough and all the storage is filling up. The govt is letting companies use space in the strategic petroleum reserve, and paying rent by giving ownership of some of the oil to the gov.

crazy times.

That's my biggest fear. Although, it sounds like that's a much bigger problem in parts of the country that get real winters.

I'm not too sure about that. My friends in both Phoenix and Reno got wiring damage in cars parked outside that they infrequently drive. We had a car get infiltrated in rural OC with nesters but no obvious wiring damage. The problem in SoCal seems to surge after a big winter.

I'll take poop on the outside all day...but yea, big birds like seagulls make one helluva mess. But the damn whatever-birds scratched the F out of my doors trying to mate with the reflection in both rear-views. I have to keep the mirrors folded in.
