Crusher in the Tushar

The one you're riding is a different Grizzly than the one I was referring to. And the one you're in is only 2 weeks after Crusher, so I doubt I'll be doing it. But let us know how you fare.

What is the Grizzly you are referring to?

Grizzly Century, North Fork (near Bass Lake above Fresno). <a class="postlink" href="http://www.grizzlycentury.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.grizzlycentury.org/</a>

That looks like fun! [emoji15]

I'm still thinking... The date for the Julian Death March was announced as October 17. I am going to do one of them- sort of leaning towards the death march, because it's familiar, and I didn't do as well as I wanted last time around. I'd like a little revenge on the course.

How about that for a warm up for Vision Quest the weekend before? Kinda bummed, would really like to do the Death March.

Next year! You can't beat a finish line that is within throwing distance of old fashioned pie shops. I ate an entire apple pie afterwards...

I'm looking forward to doing it again. I may try a different flavor this time. :-)

4 weeks from tomorrow. Is anyone else as worried as I am?

I'll never forget the guy last year, about mile 18, (3 hour cutoff at mile 26), when I said I'm worried about the cutoff, and he said "I'm afraid I'll actually make it." I laughed, and then hit the pedals even harder. This is one of those times when knowing what to expect doesn't make it better.

Faust29, where do I get info on this julian death march? I googled it and appears other date for june 27, is this the same? <a class="postlink" href="http://www.julianactive.com/Julian%20Laguna%20Classic.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.julianactive.com/Julian%20La ... lassic.htm</a>

Good luck out there... That looks more brutal than anything I've done! And, after last weekend's performance, I know I've been slacking off a little too much if I hope to "go bigger" next year with rides like this.

@jaime- The julian active people put on a lot of different rides throughout the year. I think they are mostly a tourist draw for the area. There isn't much around there... The Death March was one of their more popular rides, and they did it twice per year, usually around Memorial Day and once in the fall. I did Memorial Day 2014, and there weren't many people there. The promoters decided to "let it go", and they agreed to let another promoter have a crack at it. The new guy is Sean Burke, a coach/race promoter from the San Diego area. The easiest way to follow them is the new Julian Death March page on Facebook. I'm hoping they get it together and the event lives on.

24 days to go - and there's still snow on the top of the course. Enough to have the route closed to motor vehicles. This could be interesting...

You'll be fine! From the reports I've read, that's what you Crushers live for! :D

So... What are you thinking for this weekend?

I shall go to the mountain, and verily I shall crawl deeply into the pain cave.

As for this Sunday the NWS has Glendora at 100 degrees, which would make the climb back up the back side of GMR about 105 to 110. In the interest of living to ride another day I'm implementing Plan B. Start at the same place but ride up through Mt Baldy Village to the ski lifts. Could go up Lower Monroe on the way up and drop it on the way down. About 55 miles 7,000+ feet climbing

Start time 7 am to beat the heat. You in?

I may regret it, but I'm in... I'll get the hardtail all cleaned, lubed and ready to climb! :D

Where shall we meet and park?

I park on Glendora Mountain Road just north of Sierra Madre Ave. I don't know if this kind of link works, but here goes. <a class="postlink" href="https://www.google.com/maps/@34.1408658,-117.840032,3693m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">https://www.google.com/maps/@34.1408658 ... !1e3?hl=en</a>

Easiest way to get there is 57 N, exit Auto Centre Dr and go left from the offramp, right on Lone Hill, left on Foothill, right on Valley Center, left on Sierra Madre, right on Glendora Mountain Road and park. I'm in a silver GMC Canyon crew cab.

Sounds good... Gray VW SUV. Looks like only an hour from south OC with no traffic.

If you want to see what the route generally looks like - not including Lower Monroe - and not making it quite as far as the lifts...<a class="postlink" href="https://www.strava.com/activities/159697803" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">https://www.strava.com/activities/159697803</a>

Faust, any objection to opening this up to all comers? I'm thinking about putting this in Trailhead. Anyone can turn around at any point and retrace, so it's not like folks are locked into the whole thing.

Oh lordy...they had to grade the roads NOW??? This is not going to be easy/confidence-inspiring...but it will still be a gorgeous ride. And I will enjoy it anyway. No matter how far I get. Or don't get. ;)

Does this change the plan to go with the skinny tires?

From what they're saying on the Facebook page, I'm going to leave the 2.1" tires on the bike and take the 1.8" with me. I'm going to be up there early so I'll be doing some recon prior to the ride.

Yeah, I think that Facebook post is causing people to rethink their tire choice. I know it's causing me to rethink mine. I'm going to have enough tires to open a bike shop and I'll be overthinking tire choice up until it starts. Good luck out there.
