Sorry I meant it as more of tongue and cheek. Lots of doctors will tell you not to do dangerous activities and that's how I meant the comment to be taken, not to listen to that sort of advice.

If you have a knee problem and riding aggravates it, then it might mean no jumping or riding for you.
I suffered a concussion last year while riding San Juan Trail in OC with a buddy. The first doctor was a nice lady who was puzzled as to why anybody would Mountain Bike in the first place. She said it's way too dangerous and people ride too fast etc. So, I asked when I could get back on the bike, she says,"never, you actually are thinking about doing this again??" I said uh, yeah I've been riding for 20 years, why would I stop now? So back to my question.. " She says, "well, let me ask the Head Neurologist(npi), he rides Mountain bikes and he just suffered a concussion last year". :)

Edit: also turns out she is a hiker and was familiar with San Juan Trail.

Because he/she enjoys nature/trails and for me can't run regularly anymore and like to exercise vigorously.

So I have another doc I saw recently (actually regarding my 2nd crash basically) and he is a mtn biker too. You don't have to ride so fast but for me past 25 mph is borderline scary. And in the books they all say "just relax" like it's taking a bong hit or drinking beer. Whatever dude.

I'm not allowed to change the topic of thread conversation (behavior modification) but I was very tempted by that "lighten up" joke above. Oh well, you missed out on some big laughter... :sneaky:

I have dual medial meniscal tears.

That too bad because unless caught immediately after the tear it cannot be sewn. The only option is to trim away the torn part.

Well hopefully you will be able to live this injury and still ride. Yes jumping might not be an option unless the jump has a perfect landing, but stay away from jumps with flat landings.

Concussions can be very dangerous, or they can be a none issue. I've landed on my head several times and recently was unconscious for several minutes. Like you, Greg, I've been riding all my life and not about to quit now.
Concussions are good for the memory - you forget you crashed (yeah I received one too mtbing), kinda like childbirth, you forget the pain of labor and end up w four kids:
