Breaking News thread!

made it possible to do two or more technical loops/laps instead of being spent after one. The motors have made those guys, who were already accomplished, even faster (on the climbs) through the loops/laps.
.
After driving an hour or more to a trailhead with one loop/trail, it would be nice to get a coupla runs in. Think GoldenEagle or Mt.Pinos. Or even Mt. Wilson
Dont need to gather 4 or five buddies to make shuttle runs in the truck and you are actually riding ST up instead of driving pavement.
As an alternative to shuttles, I think it makes sense.
The used ones are getting cheaper now.....

Out in Vegas, it was skilled, fit riders on them. It's way too technical for a fat person to be riding the trails out there. What e-bikes have done for those riders out there is it's made it possible to do two or more technical loops/laps instead of being spent after one. The motors have made those guys, who were already accomplished, even faster (on the climbs) through the loops/laps.
...and components are harder to obtain because much of the supply is attached to e-bikes that facilitate their faster wear and tear by riders who otherwise would have ridden one lap (or none) instead of two.

Is the cat out of the bag, @scottay? :whistling:

Call me weird, but I would prefer to do one big loop on my 35 pound E29 than two loops with the eBike. I think the hard work to climb up is a part of the ride, a part of the experience. I don't want to make it easier. I wasn't riding Zen a couple weeks ago climbing up all that tech thinking "Oh man, know what would make this better? If it was easy!"

WTF did I just read? Oh my Randy will have a field day if this is true...:Roflmao

I’ll pedal as long as God gives me the ability.
Not on OC trails, for much longer.

I don’t mind ebikes. I mind people who ride past “no ebikes” signs, and I mind an industry that’s all too happy to wink, nod, and give them directions to the trailhead.

Access is not guaranteed. good vibes are nice but not sufficient when faced with a massive pedestrian population and land management that doesn’t care if we don’t get our stoke on.

And don’t assume that poaching is a viable long term solution. It’s easy to drop in to an off menu trail today, then blend back in. But if the po-po just have to hand out tickets to every car with a rack parked on Ridge Park, the situation will be different.

I've met the same group of E bikers at the tractor on PCE twice now by chance. The first time, one of the E Bikers, a tall in shape early 40's man had loaned his E bike to a buddy who was riding on a dated acoustic who had bonked. I engaged in a small disagreement with them over their E bikes at the time. Small smack talk. The E biker who loaned his bike was in excellent shape and proudly defended his bike choice. The second time I met them at the tractor they were a group of 6. All smiles riding brand new E-bikes discussing their Fox 36 grip 2 fork settings. I was by myself and in Bonk mode. I gave some advice on the fork settings. They ended up matching one bike to another that was performing well. I looked at the Hahn trail that day I like riding so much but being in bonk mode had to skip it. As I rode away the tall in shape E-biker said that it was good seeing you again to me. I said ride safe and took off down Dunn towards Wildhorse.
Most of my offroad moto friends all ride E bikes. They say I like the suffering part of an Mountain Bike and they're right. I leave E Bikers be for the most part.

Speaking as the local legend on most of the climbing segments going up to Mount Wilson, and the only (formerly) 300 pound forum member, I honestly wonder what shape I'd be in today if I had jumped on an e-bike in 2011 instead of hauling 350+ pounds of body, bike and gear up Live Oak in O'Neill (a 10 minute climb today) under my own power.

Not being facetious, but you probably wouldn't be here. I bet the turnover of electric bicycles is higher than acoustic. And most people buying bikes ride them a few times and then leave them in the garage.

I do call you weird, but in a good way. As in, super human.

What's a shuttle?

I like it, they are the future, but I need my tax credit before I pull the plug. Of course I could do it now and park at the bottom of Anderson and pop out on Dayton Cyn via Bell. Charge all day and reverse. Would I be poaching? Yep here and there but it is time to grasp the future cause the future is here.

Happy charging trails.

To commute the best way is to climb Albertson, drop into upper LV, skirt Bell cyn estates poach into Dayton cyn. But the fun way would be to ride Palo to LV via sheep corral, come back up badger and poach um drop Dead Cow Trail. Being its a commute speed is everything. I am old and a slow climber, then once I hit the LA streets you need the speed of a moped. There are not a lot of streets I ride in LA, as they scare the :gag: out of me
