Bike Part Availability & Prices

Just ordered some TruckerCo pads for Jennifer's bike. They were $16.99 for two pairs of semi-metallic brake pads. They're $10.99 per set, $16.99 for 2 and $26.99 for 4. I would say their semi-metallic pads are comparable to Shimano's resin pads but last longer. They're cheaper at TruckerCo as you don't get the multiple set discount at Amazon and the shipping is free.

They have a pretty big presence on ebay as well, that's where I discovered them at: http://www.ebaystores.com/truckercohighperformanceparts

Speaking of parts availability, these are free to anyone that can use them. They are brand new. I found them on my ride today. No idea what brakes they are for.

Well if they are SRAM pads as suggested by @DangerDirtyD, the owner probably took them off to save weight since they do just about as much good on the ground as they do installed.....and make less noise. :D

I wasn't sure where to post this so I thought I would start it here...
Seems like bike parts (more in particular consumables like tires and brake pads are getting VERY pricey, and hard to find.

@Voodoo Tom was in search of some 27.5 Rekons yesterday, so we both started surfing our usual places and then began spanning outward. First off they were just plain hard to find and when you did find them they were priced anywhere from $50 up to $85 bucks a tire! I think the tires on my Honda run about the same. Ridiculous.

As well I need to stock up on Shimano Brake Pads and they seem over the top as well, upwards of $25 bucks a pair.

 Yeesh!
Not going to call out an LBS by name but during the depths of the Covid lockdown last spring (when stock was hard to come by), they tried (unsuccessfully) to charge me $49 for 1 set of Shimano single piston brake pads.

Check out the used bike prices on PinkBike!!! I'm looking for a bike for my nephew and I'm seeing people asking $1400 for 2009 dual squish bike with original parts. Don't get me wrong, it's a high quality bike brand and component spec for 2009. BicycleBlueBook says $500 value. I've found several like that and they are being sold left and right.

we call that Covid pricing, we at the shop have seen POS bikes that come in for work that were sold for unbelievable prices.

I got an email from GG that they were sold out until late January. I did wonder how much over MSRP I could get for mine. Probably wouldn't be worth being bike less though.

Meh, I'm a big believer in something is worth what somebody is willing to pay. Just because somebody put a ridiculous price on something doesn't mean somebody is required to buy it and bikes are definitely a WANT vs a NEED item. As mentioned on this thread, bike shops are charging crazy prices for some parts nowadays as well. I just laugh knowing I'll fine something elsewhere for half the price with a lil' research.

A little off topic... But I have had a new road bike on order since early October. Expected due date is January due to parts availability. I guess Shimano completely shut down when Covid hit (understandable) and fell way behind. Now they are struggling to catch up to the normal demand. The real issue is they (like most manufacturers) can't catch up with the increased industry demand.

The effect Covid has had is crazy. I dont know bicycle numbers, but have heard that off road motorcycle sales are up 60% YOY.

It seems like it’s the same with anything outdoor related. RV’s and trailers are apparently through the roof on sales now. We have an off-road teardrop that we contemplated selling just because we know it would be so quick and easy to sell right now. I don’t like letting go of my toys though :geek:

If I understand correctly they've completely shut down new orders until then, at which point I'm sure it will be back to their 8+ week delivery timeline on new orders, so probably more like March or April before anyone gets a new GG. Seems like you're not too stoked on the bike, so it's certainly a good time to sell if you can scrounge up another option to carry you through.

I found where your parts and bikes are. I counted about 25+ container ships off Long Beach most I have counted since the strike.

Let's see...

25 container ship * avg 20K TEU (Standard container) x ~ 1000 cubic ft.

That about 500 Million cubic feet of cargo.....

This is where a little bit of communist muscle would come in handy to get things moving again.
