Adventure passes

That's why I always try to buy them in January. Get the 2019 pass, which is the same one they still sell in December 2019 that is good to Dec 2020. No punch = 2 year pass. I have run into a ranger at San Juan who saw it wasn't punched and did so for me. Of course, I had just purchased it "last week". But if it's hanging from your mirror and you aren't there, they can't do anything about it. And at least you tried, unlike the scofflaws in this thread who refuse to buy one. I figure it helps fund recreation and that is something I support. Most of the Forest service budget these days is taken up by firefighting to the detriment of other needs like recreation. I have an America the Beautiful pass this year so no Adventure pass for me...
"scofflaws" :Roflmao

I buy them so I can stick them onto my workbench when they expire and then people ask what all those yearly stickers are and I tell them it’s so I can use picnic tables at NF TH’s. :geek:

Looks like I’m behind a few years.

:eek:!!!

I just buy the pass at the entrance kiosk, they always take CCs. I've never gone anywhere to buy one or had one sent to me.

Yellowstone is strange like that... If you get up at the crack of dawn (to go view wildlife or something) you can drive into the park without paying the day use fee because the gate will be open but no one will be manning the entrance kiosk. And of course the back-country they would like for you to have a pass, but not like some ranger is going to come asking for it. There is definitely an ebb and flow of tourist traffic each day, and I think they figure as long as they man the gates during 95% of the traffic, it is good enough. Doesn't pay to have someone staffing the kiosk all night long just for a couple of cars.

I did this something like three days in a row last November in Zion. In early, through the pedestrian/bike entrance with no one at the booth. Same thing on the way out, after they went home for the day. I have a pass and would have been happy to show it but there was no one there to show it to.

SJT is the exception, but never had an issue there.

I got a ticket for $7 at SJT last year and payed it through the mail. The worse part was my pass I bought a month before was in the glove box... I had tore up my arms too and was bleeding pretty good by the end without sleeves. However, the trail was ripping that day I remember and a couple beers along with some laughs and smiles made the ticket a moot point.

Pass/No pass- It's up to you. Just get out there and have fun, take care of what you use, and leave it in better condition then you found it. Thanks

You remind me, Derek...

If you forget your pass and have to pay at a NP entrance, you can later mail them a copy of your pass and they will reimburse your entrance fee. Who knows if or how that would work with a parks pass covering NFAP fee areas. Or if the NFAP program itself would honor similarly. Note to self: Don't forget the pass.

If you forget your adventure pass and get a fix it ticket you just write the pass number on the ticket and mail it in. No cash required. I've done that the few times I've gotten one.
