2020 Wrightwood 50........Unoffical

I’d pick a route that lets you practice pushing your bike... You’ll be doing a lot of that in the very beginning and again at mile 30 something. :D

I practiced the West Horsethief HAB before Vision Quest and it paid off. Almost an hour of pushing...
That all sounds just terrific! Ya’ll keep in mind what type of hiking shoes to bring to the ride. My Sidi Dominator 5s are still hanging on despite all the HAB i’d done in them. But to train via HAB redefines the featured “ride” as a “mission.”

you should share the weight of your steed since you brought it up

You never ask a female her weight. :speechless:

I would like to do one or both, @buggravy. For the Mishe Mokwa to Corral we started at Encinal and went east to Corral then came back to Encinal for refueling then did the Mishe Mokwa leg. It worked out great.

You got my interest. I'm planning to do Wrightwood 50 for my first time ever riding out that way. I'm possibly doing the Encinal to Mishe Mokwa on Monday, which is the easy side of the ride versus heading east to corral.

Nice! I think I'm doing that section with my wife tomorrow as well. I've done all parts, but never at one time. Would either or both of you be interested in doing the full pull over Labor Day weekend, depending on how hot it is? Unfortunately I'm relegated to weekends for long rides at the moment.

I'm interested. It would have to be Saturday or Sunday though as I'm on the road to AZ on Monday.

yes I’m up for it. Flexible on whatever days
Cool, I think either should be fine on my end also. Let's watch weather and see if one looks to be better than the other. Of course, it now says it's supposed to be 107 in Calabasas on Saturday. Should be a little cooler on the ride route, but emphasis on little.

I don't want to derail the thread with training ride posts, but if anyone is wanting to join in but couldn't do this weekend we're pushing it back due to the heat. Backbone from Encinal to Corral Canyon round trip followed by Encinal to Mishe Mokwa round trip is going to happen one of the following two weekends, heat dependent. Again, will be around 45/7K. PM if interested.

Ha! half the posts on this thread regard other rides leading up to showtime. While this might typically violate the rules of engagement, the attention it garners ramping up to the big day may appease Zilla. Any ride that requires additional rides prior to execution in order to ensure its success is worthwhile. Survival mode is in session!

It's more about training my brain than my body. Need to establish a baseline of suffering.

I'm hoping for muscle memory to carry me through.

I've muddled through with Trailforks and an iPhone to this point. Really, it has been all I needed. Guessing you guys don't want to wait while I pull my phone out of my pocket every 1/4 mile. We need a mtb version of Waze.

I have the 11 Pro Max and wouldn't trust it to run tracking software for 11 hours. I used to get 5 or 6 hours out of the older phones at the most...
