2019 Rwanda Ride

Just signed up and looking forward to my first RfR. Only on books for 25 mile. May bump it up to 50 if training goes well in next couple months.
@Faust29 I used the IMTB Hooligans team. Hope that was cool.

Awesome!

I was a little bleary eyed when I posted last night after doing 1900 miles in the car in 2 days. I should have added that this is the perfect event to go for the first 50 miler- considering the support stations, cheerleaders, and the course layout. I finished just about dead last in 2013, and it was my first ride with that much gain and distance on dirt. It also took me two weeks to recover.

Also- I think the Caspers loop is the better part of the ride. :whistling:

A couple of items....

1 - with the rain, is this gonna be a repeat of a couple years ago with water knee deep and BB-destroying sand?

2 - With the talk in the other thread about Waterworks and such, will there be a course?

1- The water will subside by then... hopefully. The sand, however, has always been down there... I avoid some sections down there just so I don't have to clean the bike.
2- It sounds like they are just changing the entrance to Waterworks. And even if it were off the menu, it's a recent addition to the course anyway. Rwanda did fine before it...

There's also a rain date of May 4th. Not sure if a week would make that much difference though?

I can't even imagine what Arroyo Trabuco looks like after yesterday, although it has held up surprisingly well in the previous floods this season. Anyone remember the year (2011, maybe?) that the Rwanda ride went up through Whiting because Arroyo Trabuco was essentially unrideable?

You know it's bad when the entire park is closed... not just the trails. They're not even letting people in to the paved picnic areas or campgrounds. It will heal... But who knows what it will look like afterwards.

I'm not sure what @Runs with Scissors is worried about... The course looks awesome! :whistling:

I was just coming here to see if I need to get to do this. Anyways anyone know the current conditions? I guess we still have 5 weeks so things may get better?

They usually clean up the trails in the weeks before... some years with heavy machinery. That’s what the Arroyo and Bell trails will need this time around.
