2018 Redlands Strada Rossa

Looks like a lot of new dirt this time around. I say we put the newb in charge of navigation.

Long range weather looks promising.....highs in the low 60’s
Especially perfect if it's going to raining on the 15th... that'll be a first. Weather has always been pretty hot.

Wait a minute... I remember you saying something similar last time and then we hit the climb of death at mile 92. It was so bad, the donkeys were laughing at us! :p:D

Won't get fooled again!

The weather is looking to be PERFECT!

Cool, moist, sunny... this will be our first year where there's a chance of rain for the event. I don't think there will be any route changes, but stay tuned!

FYI, there will be a cut off for registration coming up. Tuesday the 13th, 2359hrs!
There will be day-of reg, but it will NOT include food & beverage.

How do those dirt roads handle the wet?
Light rain/drizzle will not be a problem at all. Percentages are currently declining BTW. If it rains heavily this week and again Fri or Sat, there are a couple spots where it will get muddy. Around mile 47 on the 100 mile route in particular. The rest, not so much. We might have to bypass the Plunge Creek crossing at mile 40.8 as well. Usually living in SoCal I want rain, but this time I want it to stay away!!!

And another question...

Any issue with an early start, like we did a couple years ago? Those of us with gear disabilities could use some extra time against the cross guys.

LOL... yes, the Americans with Disabilities in Cycling Act plainly states we need to offer access and accommodations in the least restrictive environment.
This goes beyond a mere bureaucratic edict, and of course is our desire as well.

Registration @ the BikeBBQ should be up and running for you, but if it isn't just hop on the route and get spinning in your hamster wheels. We'll catch you for lunch at the end.

Because of course you are going to stay for lunch and not just take off!!!!

Did they have to change a lot of the dirt to pavement?

Not a ton of loss, and just in the second half. The dirt we had to lose was the favorite part of all the organizers though, so it was painful giving it up. We are more or less reverting to the 2016 routes for the short and medium. Long has their bonus miles at the beginning rather than the end, and it is different than '16.

There is a chance of two more day-of changes based on how much it rains Friday night. Chance of rain is remaining high (80%), but amount of precipitation is going down (.12"), so hoping that for just drizzle at worst.

Cool, just curious. Can't control the weather and trail conditions. I'll be there regardless and look forward to having a great time!

Doing the 67 miler with 3 of my riding buddies. 2 of them did it last year and are much happier with the wet trails than the 95 degree heat that they had then. lol
Great! The metric century/66er is really the best all around route. The updated route has about six bleh miles starting @ 46.6, but all downhill and go by quick! And if you look at the map, miles 12 thru 44 are nearly all dirt with only about three miles of back road in the mix.

And I agree, the weather is going to be perfect this year!
