Right now I feel a little nauseous. What the heck did I do...

My wife is going to help me pack everything, and she'll drive me out the morning of... I'll probably lose her to a local gambling establishment for a few hours, though. :D As long as she brings back some real food after the 6 hour mark, I'll be happy! I'm guessing that I'll hit the wall some time after that...

Looks like it's gonna be warm....but not hot.

Just lay your gear out at your pit....it's all in being organized.

Also, since it goes til 9:00....make sure you bring a light.

any info on the beginner class or clydesdale besides on the one on the website? I'm 230 and a beginner.. [emoji28] but would love to try it !

Pick one.....Clydesdale will be open class for big guys, Beginner is just that, but with smaller guys.

Personally even at my heaviest(215), never raced Clydesdale class. The regular class is always bigger so I was able to get a better gauge as to how I stacked up.

Looking at the results from the January race, there were only a handful of entrants in the beginner and clyde classes- 4 in each. The beginners ranged from 7-9 laps, and the clydes ranged from 6-9 laps, so not a big difference in ability. I went with what I feel... I'm 205 right now, but I used to be a whole lot heavier. When 7 miles was a long ride, I felt like a clyde. I don't really feel that way anymore, so I went with beginner.

So I went out today and pre-rode the course.

Quite a bit different than the last race. Good news is that the Dam Hill climb is out....bad news is that there are some short punchy climbs around mile 2.5 that are gonna hurt after a few laps.

With the Dam Hill out of the loop, the climbing is spaced out quite a bit more. But that also means that there is a lot more singletrack climbing...which is gonna mean bottlenecks for the first couple of laps. Most of the course is in pretty good shape, there are a couple of small sections that are pretty loose.

It is a fun loop for sure. Got in 3.5 laps today....first lap, cold legs, just cruising to get the layout of the loop, was :49

Got on the bike about 10:00 and it was warm....then got toasty....then downright hot. The wind also picked up and seemed like I was fighting a headwind all the way around.

Looking forward to it.

I'm making do with a Google Earth flyover... It looks like an interesting course! I can see the single track climbs you mention.

I wonder if it's too late to change my category... This one lap beginner sounds interesting. See the course, and avoid the full organ shutdown!

Look for the Salsa with the orange bars... I'll be the guy puking his guts out next to it. The bags are coming off... I'll probably just carry a tube and some tire levers.

HT vs. FS.... I guess I'll bring both.

Asking the wrong guy here.....

Actually the course is pretty smooth, and not very technical.....compared to the kind of riding most of us do on our local trails. No rock gardens, not really any baby heads. Soil is more like decomposed granite....a little loose sand over hardpack.

Actually think a FS rig is overkill....but I ride the HT everywhere, and some people are just more comfortable with the squish.

I'm also the wrong guy... I haven't touched my FS since getting the Salsa. :-)

I didn't see anything that looked rough on my Google Earth flyover... Glad to hear that's accurate.

I'll bring my FS.... well... it is the only one I have... [emoji16] also... since I'm going to finish early (1 lap) I'll bring my chair and will hang out for a while, so if any of you guys attending need an extra hand on their pit, I'll more than glad to help or just hang out watching the guys doing laps ! [emoji57]

I read somewhere that the "1 lap" might actually be 2 laps. One parade lap, and one real lap. ;)

^^^ yes is in the front page. If I have energy left, I'll be waving my hand [emoji41]

The parade lap at the last race, really wasn't....if we went an extra 100 yds on the 1st lap.

This race may be different. We get to the singletrack quicker, so perhaps they will have us go farther to space us out.

My "pit" is going to look an awful lot like a cooler and an umbrella, which I may or may not unfold. I don't want to take the chance of getting too comfortable!

Actually think a FS rig is overkill.....

I tend to agree, as long as I'm only doing one lap at a time.
Last year I did the 6hrs solo, and the balls slapping (on a HT) would have been too much IMO.

I hear ya....we are used to what we are used to.

That being said, I am a believer that you don't swap bikes out during an endurance event. Start on the FS....ride it the whole race.

The Crusher that Runs with Scissors is doing has that rule... "Pick 1". I'm looking at that one for next year...

I'm waiting impatiently for the ride reports from those who went...I know the 12 hour folks aren't even close to done yet, but the 6 hour were done at 3. Come on, people!!! :D

Turned out to be a scorcher here, and it T-stormed on the guys at Wrightwood... might be interesting for those waiting for the RR.
