I Rode My Bike Today...

...the reason this thread was started in the first place.

Plus one there. I'm always inspired to read about you sprocketheads getting your fix, and the ride stats have nothing to do with it.

Ride. Post. Repeat.

TIA :geek:

Postscript: I'm never all that impressed by pros and mutants doing incredible things. That's their job. I'm impressed by the person with obligations who is driven by passion to get out and have fun. Anyone surmounting a challenge of any kind to go have unpaid fun gets a big nod from me. I don't care if it's a hangover, kids, injury, ailment, apathy, age, career, whatever.

Last minute decision to ride LCWP from Ridge Park /Coastal Peak Park, i.e. my go to ride.

Rode SOT --> Camarillo --> Stagecoach --> back out up Willow and Bommer. Skipped the mess of hikers and bikers on Fenceline. No mud but man it was wet out there. Glasses were useless as they fogged unless you were flying, but no glasses meant lots of dirt in the eyes.

10ish miles, 1800ish feet. Got to wash the bike off now!

Wanted to do Black Star to Motorway but my buddy I rode with didn't have time so we turned around at Hagador, his first time past the ball. Also took him down Booby Trap for the first time. Awesome weather..

Used Tailwind for the first time and was stoked on it!

23ish miles with 3400ish feet up.

Interesting and different day today. I wanted to join @shawndoh on his Aliso Tech ride, but didn't want to chase him on tough trails with a new shock. Solution? Hit Rock-It before the meet time to dial in my shock in familiar territory. I parked as close to the top of Cholla as one can to maximize the amount of time I could spend testing the shock (and not climbing). I rolled at 7:15. Foggy, drizzly and no one around. I pedaled up to the "test rock" at the top of Lynx - one other set of tire tracks. No footprints. Dropped the little 3' drop to check for bottom out. It didn't, but only had about 3mm left. Perfect. Let's go try Rock-It.

So cool to do that run with tacky dirt and not another soul in sight. Again - 1 set of tire tracks. Visibility was bad, but the shock was great. I felt like a spectator behind my foggy glasses rather than an active participant. No matter - super fun. No need to do any dialing in at this point. It may need a few more psi, but we shall see. Off I go to climb back to CV park to meet up with Shawn and anyone else. I was 20 minutes early. Waited for 5 mins, then rode up the road a bit to see if I could find anyone.

Called Shawn. He was riding back up to the park after dropping Bong Drop. That's a tough trail. Met up with him, then @moto knight showed up. He was waiting for 4 friends. After they showed up, I took off to go climb up to 5-Oaks. I waited up there for about 20 minutes. Finally the crew of 8 was assembled.

Nice run down 5-O, then waiting again - there were 7, where's #8? At that point, Shawn and his friend Chase and I parted company with the other 5. (We found #8 - he had dropped Bong Drop instead of 5-Oaks). Shawn, Chase and I headed up Cholla, down Stairs, back up Stairs, up to top of Mathis, down Car Wreck, up Mathis to Alta Laguna, over to Meadows, ripped down that on the hero dirt and tasty berms, then the long but mostly gentle slog back to the cars. Shawn and Chase hit Dripping Cave, but my quads were hinting at cramping, so I skipped that little - but painful - detour.

Damp weather. Perfect temps. Hero dirt. Good riders. Challenging trails. 5 climbs and five downs for me. Downs were Rock-It, 5-Oaks, Stairs, Car Wreck and Meadow. Doesn't get much better than that on the legal trails.

20 miles. 3500' Bikes are fun!

Oh and the shock? All I can say is I didn't really notice it - and that's high praise. The Trail and Climb modes worked better than the climb mode on the Cane Creek. The shock seems plush where it should, and firm where it should. I think we will get along just fine.

Single alarm emergency call to hit Golden Eagle last minute. I see that most of you were caught with your fireman's trousers down. You should know better!
Well two were prepared! @Voodoo Tom and @Makoto! ...and it was AWESOME! I thought I was going to go for the KOM on the final descent as I "thought" it was going to be hero dirt... "DampHero", but it was not. I trusted a corner to hold my carve and it let go and I washed out. :(:(:( Ended up on the ground completely unscathed but had to straighten my bars and... well, you know the rest. No KOM for Mikie. Still made top 10.
But! Voodoo and I got to FINALLY meet Mike aka @Makoto , and that made everything better. Great rider! Now Mike, you are stuck with us, and going to be invited to every ride we do, suckah!
So... Can you say DampHero, boys and girls? I knew you could...

@herzalot and crew. Sorry I missed you guys late night, late start yadayada

BUT I had a great time for when I was climbing up Stair Steps with thought of catching up, I realized first time on the Bronson on Steps, and I had most my gear on so I decided to session a bit, a couple sections. Next thing I new I spent nearly and hour multiple runs on all the rock gardens. Picking Lines, Learning Bike, tuning Fork it was a bit too fast / rebounding a bit too much on the bigger step downs 2 click adjust thank you very much. I had a blast did the rock waterfall on the left to (when climbing), Old Stair Steps etc.

I finally got up and then headed over to Rockit, it had been a while I didn't even completely remember it, I could feel the fork was a bit slower on the little bumps but as I speed up it evened out and felt very good through the gardens. Had fun, need to ride that more, there were some folks, and I didn't remember how to do that little up, but bike flew when I let it go.

I looped around back up Cholla and was thinking about Rockit again, but then I decided to to go ahead and do Stair Steps before I forgot everything (getting old lol)

EDIT : Reading ... Shoot I knew I would regret not riding meadows

And Heya, I cleaned All of Steps including the "Old Stair Steps rock waterfall" ... mostly non-P-lines ...thats a first for me!

I think it was a good call as I was making my way back to the car my legs were a bit tired, maybe all the HABing earlier.

Only 12mi/2600' but it was a solid morning for me.

Thats Old Stair Step (you guys can correct me if needed) the larger lip is just around the corner of that pic.

@bvader Beautiful bike and nice ride report. Sounds like you had a lot of fun. The Bronson will do anything you are willing to do, especially with them particular squishy bits you've got on that thing. I love that SC specs a Fox shock and a Rock Shox fork!!! Congrats on your purchase and on your successful Stair Steps session. I had a fun run on that beastly little trail myself today.

@shawndoh rode UP most of it. Not the waterfall section, but some damn tricky sections on the lower half, then the climbing route.

I can say DumpHero dirt.

Ouch. Last week, one ride one crash. This week one ride 2 crashes. Got together with my usual gaggle of goons and a newb and rode Santiago Oaks. From trails end to the B's...
Vincent and Ryan enjoyed showing off on the drops by the robbers peak flag pole or X-flag pole, it's missingo_O.

I had some fun getting more air and distance than ever before on the jump just north of that where my avatar was taken. We added in the Weir Cyn loop where at one point my bars clipped a sawed off tree limb and sent me flying. Crash #1. We found a white tube that was probably placed on the limb before to warn people but had fallen off. Lucky me.

Back at Robbers I descend the trail underneath the electrical tower, straight and steep. Got squirrely dodging rocks, crash #2 :bang: No biggie continued on down Chutes and out. The newb was exhausted but enjoyed the new dirt. Just another day for the rest of us. Good times. 16/2000.

Mixed it up a little bit today. Headed over to Chino Hills. Got a late morning start....almost 11:30. Started at Brush Canyon Park and followed the RR tracks to Lower Aliso. Headed up Scully Hill...really enjoying this climb. There are still a couple of pitches I can't clean, but it's a good climb.

Went up Telegraph....up the 3 Bitches instead of taking Southridge up....couldn't clean it. Southridge is all ridable. Down to 4 Corners, went up Bovinian the left and back up Southridge and explored out to San Juan Hill. Down Raptor/Faultline....made the left and went up Upper Aliso and climbed Sidewinder to Bane Ridge. Back at the bottom of the Lower Aliso, climbed back up Scully Ridge and descended Brush Canyon Trail before hitting Fenceline on the way out.

I wanted to get out and ride with some friends today, but everyone was going out later than I would be able to ride. So I decided to keep it local and do a loop through Sycamore Canyon. I parked at the trail head on central, and started up the hill working my way back to the ammo dump where I made a short pass and hit up some of the new features.

When I continued back into the park I noticed that my foot was shifting a little bit on some of my left pedal strokes. I jumped off my bike to take look and sure enough I was able to shift my cranks through the BB a few mm's in each direction. I tried to tighten up the spacer on the non drive side, and it seemed to be good to go but I just hoped it would get me back through the rest of the park. Continuing back out, I finished up with ER's Speed Run (one of my favorite trails in the park) and right when I hit the bottom I felt my cranks move again. At least they got me through the ride.

Final total: 18m & 1800' (which oddly enough are the same stats as my earlier ride this week).

chuckles, yeah- not the chunkiest photo ever. :O It's hard to cut off your own rip to get that photo of someone else. I could work on being less selfish. :/
I'm with you on that. I don't expect anybody in any ride group to stop and shoot others riding "the goods" and I usually don't think about it myself either. We would have to ride with gregarious people like @Mikie to get action shots, or (gulp) become more like him and give up a little flow to get some cool snaps.

I didn't feel so hot this morning, so I downed 2 Dayquil, had a few extra doses of caffeine, and headed out the door. No destination in mind, but with a time limit... I headed up Trabuco wash, and made it to the Holy Jim parking lot. There were a lot of hikers gearing up, and a lot of cars already in the lot. I decided to keep going and head for West Horsethief. I had it all to myself... There were a few other tracks made recently, and a couple moto tracks, but I was pretty much alone today for my hike. I saw two other riders at the top of Trabuco, and a couple of hikers at the bottom. 4 people... What a crowd! o_O

Trabuco is in horrible shape. You should all stay away! :stop::whistling:

Well my wife has been fighting a bug all week....but she wanted to get out today. Today was day 6 in a row, so ladies choice....and she chose Whiting. She stated before the ride that this was just gonna be a "cruise w/ Suz" ride. I was fine with that.

This was also gonna be the first time she has ridden the new bike anywhere other than the Oaks.

Suz on Cattle Pond:

She definitely didn't cruise up Borrego or Mustard. We ran into an old friend and his kids at the top of Mustard. After catching up we headed up to Mark's Bench, then back down Cactus. I headed up Saddleback Ranch for extra credit while she headed to Sleepy Hollow.

Down on Serrano Cow Trail:

Rode with @Ebruner and another buddy of mine this morning at LCWP. Perfect riding conditions. Damp dirt and cool temps. We staged at Bommer Canyon and rode in to Ridge Park. That was my first time staging at Bommer. The hill up to Ridge Park will definitely get your blood flowing at the start of the ride. Pretty much stayed NE of Bommer Ridge for the entire ride. I really like that side. El Moro and LCWP can be crowded and you'll only see a few people on the other side. We rode Bommer Cyn-Lizards-Camarillo-Stage Coach to Nix staging and back-Willow back to the ridge and Fence Line back to Ridgeark for the run back down Bommer. Fun day in the saddle. No mechanicals or injuries.

Cool vids! How's she liking the new bike and + wheels?

So far, so good. She really hasn't had a whole lot of time on it. She got it, then the weather went bad, then she got sick. Like I said, this was the first time she rode it somewhere other than the Oaks.

She felt good climbing up Mustard....she climbed faster than I expected, especially for being off the bike. Still toying with swapping the 32t ring for a 30t just to compensate for the added weight...but I'll see how she feels after she gets back into a regular riding schedule.

DH....the thing just rips. Everyone says 29er's just roll over everything....pfffftt  This thing is like a monster truck over everything. So much tire that you don't even have to pick a line anymore.

Climbing is like a rock crawler....there is no lack of traction. As long as she can turn the pedals, it will climb.

The center of balance is sooooo low, that it changes from left to right to left and back with literally no trouble. Fast flowy ST the thing just goes.
