I Rode My Bike Today...

@mtnbikej Suz is rippin'! Good form. I have to admit as I was watching the Cattle Pond video and waiting for her to appear, I was not expecting the speed and confidence she displayed.

Oh - and I too rode my bike today. Just a little mid-afternoon chore break with @Cougar. 1 hr. 1000'.

Yeah....she set a PR today. She has been down it a few times.

I gotta admit.....it sounded like a freight train coming around the corner right before she appeared.

How could I not ride today??? PERFECT weather out, dirt is still slightly tacky from the recent rain... just amazing! Went out for two hours with the 14 y.o... who gave me a real hard time. But once out was GREAT!

I think the trick is to find the random tire swing out in the country!

Rode today!!!!!! 22 ish 3500. A few friends, good dirt, and me wondering where my fitness went. Hopefully four nights on the trainer this week! OE and Lizards were A-making dirt. Camarillo is a bit more challenging as a bit of the dirt has washed away. Nix was dead perfect. Got home and watched the sky while I read a book. Simple pleasures, I long to indulge in them! To whit:

Oh and the shock? All I can say is I didn't really notice it - and that's high praise. The Trail and Climb modes worked better than the climb mode on the Cane Creek. The shock seems plush where it should, and firm where it should. I think we will get along just fine.
I was waiting for a positive review before I claimed my reward. In all seriousness I'm glad it's working out.

My fourth straight day on a bike and my legs felt fine most of the ride, but my cardio was shot..... I couldn't get my HR over 144 all day. A classic sign of fatigue.
Nice group of about 10 riders. Perfect fat guys weather. At times the mist turned to light drizzle. One water bottle was all I needed.
Lately, I've been forgetting to start my Garmin. I'm not sure how to "fix" this issue..... I might need to change my pre-ride routine. Any suggestions?

Harding/Joplin/STT

Feeling that I have recovered from 2 week battle with a nasty cold, I decided to do one of my favorite loops.
Kind of a late start - slow & steady up Harding. I felt kind of good on the climb, but 2:30 to the top of Harding is rather slow.
It sure was sunny above the clouds with great views of the surrounding peaks

The climb up Modjeska was a chore, but the pain didn't last t00 long - the usual chunk caused me to walk a lot
It was a really quiet afternoon on the mountain-no vehicles and only one or two other solo bikers

I dropped into Joplin and felt real smooth on the upper stretches
The fall colors were nice - I was rather tired on lower Joplin and even had a wash out coming into Old Camp (no harm - no foul)
The ride down STT was fun and uneventful. I passed a few groups headed up to do their Luge loop.
I rode back to the car at Tucker Sanctuary feeling satisfied, but exhausted. It was a beautiful day up on the mountain!!

Turn the O-N/O-F-F switch to the O-N position...:whistling:

I do turn it on, but in the 30 seconds it takes for my Edge810 to load up I tend to loose focus, and roll off without pushing the "start" button.
My inability to stay focused for such a short amount of time is frustrating.
I take comfort in the fact that this condition will improve with age....... :)

Does it have a warning you can set like the 510? It tells me when it senses motion and I've forgotten to start the timer.

I met up with @Andy and @Faust29 for a quick spin on Whiting. Good times. Steve is a beast on the SS. I will probably convert at some point in my career.

Andy and I both cleared Mustard. I was a little disappointed that the other riders at the top didn't clap, but I forgave them.

Yep... A nice 10 miler in Whiting to get the blood flowing. That park is so much nicer during the week!

My 500 beeps and displays the "hey, stupid, push a button" message when I start moving. Which message doesn't go away until I push a button.

Can't believe they'd remove such a great geezer feature.

Maybe this?
  1. From the home screen, select
    GUID-D21CA72A-7D14-4EB0-AA0A-F11834F135F6-high.svg
    > Activity Profiles.
  2. Select a profile.
  3. Select Start Notice > Start Notice Mode.
  4. Select an option:
    • Select Once.

    • Select Repeat > Repeat Delay to change the amount of time to delay the reminder.

And i just checked... Same menu on the 510. And a Google search shows it's the same on the 810.

They don't, however, refer to it as the "Hey, Stupid..." feature. :D

It does have some warning on the screen (but no bips).
Once I look at the screen I realized that I didn't start it. At that point and the visual warning is not needed.
What I need is an audible signal.
I'll check out the setting on it.

The last little climb to Vista has always been my go-to spot to work the heart rate and do intervals. With the recent trail work, I got the bright idea to expand my interval run to a small loop: up the main climb, down the drop in, and up the cheater drop-in. Rinse... Repeat. By the third one, I was walking the last 50 feet to the top. :gag:

I took a break and dropped down the Vista DH, wandered around, and climbed back up Live Oak for another round of intervals. Until the $#@$%# chain broke, and I wacked my knee and left hand hard enough to draw some blood. Third broken chain this year? Maybe the 4th? I didn't fix it in under 2 minutes like mtnbikej did in Big Bear. I was easily up around the 10 minute mark. In my defense, most of the time was spent walking off the charley horse and swearing. :D

I used to climb Live Oak because it was close, and it was a good warm-up... Now there is actually a nice payoff on the Vista DH. So much fun, I did it twice today. Hopefully, the trail work survives the rains... My only caution would be that the trail wants you to go faster than the unbermed turns can handle... There are several that are very easy to enter way too hot. :whistling:

It seems like breaking chains hurt way more on the SS than on the geared bike.....

Time for a new chain....and don't buy SRAM chains. They don't last.

Keep an eye on your chain tension....if it gets too loose, the chain wants to jump off the ring/cog, often resulting in a broken chain.
