I Rode My Bike Today...

Rode Tapia this morning with a couple imtbtrails brothas(Mikie & psm) and several from a local SCVMTB club. I think it was 8 total riders all of which hauled the the mail. I've only ridden Tapia about a million times but was shown a new trail called bbq lid and it was sweet. What a great way to start the day and the 4 day weekend. SOOOOO much to be thankful for...

Yes I gave psm a hard time for not wearing an imtbtrails jersey and representing like the cool guy on the left...

Yes! We did!
An invite from psm to ride a Thanksgiving Tapia. We only got a lap in but it had new dirt within it and the group was pretty fast. It was a PR festival (9 PR's) for me to include on "G" Out. Nice way to start Turkey Day with some of my favorite Buds!
Thanks for the invite Patrick! Tom! ...As always...

i was already meeting a friend and his brother in law and knew another group was gonna ride so i threw out to imtb and was totally stoked when i saw tom standing next to a mini in the parking lot with a bike on top and realized mikie had made the trip down to enjoy a spin around tapia. great weather and group of 8 riders led to a fun time had by all. ended with a few of those pr's myself, i'm trying to upload pictures but experiencing some issues

Did I get out today.....of course I did. 8am start with my wife....then met up with a buddy....then it snowballed from there. I think everyone in the OC was in the Oaks this morning. Even ended up cruising around with the OCRiders.

Stayed out longer than I planned. Had to be in Santa Ana at 12:00 and I was still in Irvine Park at 11:15. It was a push, but I did make it on time.

23 miles / 3150' ascent.........and today i broke 900k' of ascent.

Holy Jim to MD and back this morning with Coolbreeze and Mike (Mike went on to a bigger loop, hope he reports on that). Good times and chats with great guys, but damn that climb will remind you if you are not in good shape, 2500 feet in 5 miles on a moderately technical switchbacked narrow singletrack. Good stuff

42 degrees and windy at main divide, fingers were numb most the way down (must remember to pack dry gloves), lots of hiker/biker traffic going down, but everyone in good spirits, many "happy thanksgivings" thrown out and received.

A group of riders went before us off main divide having just come down upper HJ. A guy and a gal both easily cleaned the tough rocky drop off main divide onto HJ. From strava flyby, found the gal was Anneke Beerten, a world cup 4cross champ. I walked it 'cause I needed my wrists to eat turkey and stuff later. So thankful I can still do this, Hope ya'll had a great thanksgiving!

Strava Stalker!
Haha! Yes, when you come across someone who cleanly rides a section that seems pretty crazy hard, I like to know who it is. Finding out it's a pro rider may be some sort of weird solace to my unwillingness to even try it.... above my pay grade. o_O

But seriously, I've never seen anyone ride it before yesterday. Total commitment because there's no stopping, slowing or even dabbing really on that steepness... controlled slide around the rocks to clean it, or crash. And pretty high cost for failure, you undoubtedly will land on a rock and break something, and be miles from help. Kudos to them, they made it look easy.

Oh yeah? Well I rode my bike today...AGAIN! Dang! Starting to feel like @mtnbikej !
MTBHotRod put out the invite for a Black Friday stroll on A.T. down in Acton. Naturally I invited Voodoo Tom especially since he is like 2 minutes off Interstate 5 on the way... Woohoo!
Got there in perfect time. MTBHotRod showed up hauling Danny Lee, and Adam Stowers (no way!) Then Hill^billy rolled up shortly after. Nice! A 6 Man Team. All fast guys!

Now I have mentioned A.T. many times as an epic ride, just like I have stated the same about Golden Eagle. If you like narrow flowy twisty singletrack hugging the terrain with lots of exposure, this one is for you! Adam stated at the end of the ride, "People would pay money to ride sh!t like this, that was awesome!"

It WAS awesome! We started at a cruisin' pace and kept it for the most part into the big climb, but when we had enough of climbing and turned it around, the flag dropped and it turned into a semi hammer-fest. Laughing and having a great ride...

If you trust Mikie (and I think you should) you GOT to get out and ride A.T. (I'm sure that several who have ridden A.T. will chime in on this...)
As @Tom the Bomb would say, "We were haulin' the mail!"
Great ride today boyz!

Almost didn't ride my bike today but so glad I did. Got an invite from Mikie yesterday to hit the one and only AT in Acton. Still feeling a bit rough and having ridden the last couple days I respectfully bowed out late last night. Then of course I went to bed and tossed & turned all night thinking about AT. Reality was I just wasn't going to be happy if I didn't ride go on this ride. So literally decided last second to go and messaged Mikie.

Sorry, no pics but AT is just a great trail. Lots of low gear techy climbing & switchbacks and very narrow and exposed in places. Also couple HAB climbs and some big chunky stuff to go with some fun flowy canyon blasting stuff. One thing is for sure this trail requires 100 percent of your attention or it could be hazardous to your health. It's roughly a 20 mile out & back but you've got to earn it. The grand finale is a couple sections called Chunk King and Death Chute. This is the type of stuff you leave a bit of space between riders cuz you just don't know exactly how it's going to go. I dropped off the first rock obstacle and before I knew it both feet were unclipped and above my head but somehow my butt slammed down on the seat and I was able to clip back in and ride it out. I was super jazzed to clean these sections even if it wasn't pretty or fast. So like others have said before AT is a destination trail with lots of adventure. Come on out folks.

I rode my bike today! I was invited to ride Cold Springs in Santa Barbara a few days ago and was on the fence as I didn't want to be gone all day. After dinner last night Jennifer asked me where I was riding and I said I didn't know what do you feel like doing? She says I will be shopping for a wedding dress then Christmas shopping after that. After that statement being gone most of the day didn't sound bad. We drove to the bottom of Cold Springs to drop off one of the vehicles then shuttled over to Romero Canyon. Climbed Romero Canyon which is pretty steep then eases up a little here and there the rest of the way. At the top we took a mile or so of pavement to the top of Cold Springs. Took a short break and donned our pads. We took it pretty easy on the way down. Cold Springs starts off a little flowy then turns into a baby-headed chunk fest! About halfway down I hesitated and a rock stopped me dead in my tracks. Did a slow motion OTB. Sure glad I was wearing pads! The rest of the ride was more of the same and as we neared the bottom we encountered a few hikers here and there. No more mishaps and no mechanicals. Went to pick up the other vehicle then stopped at a deli for a chicken, avocado and bacon sandwich. Hopefully will be able to post some pics later. What a wonderful day!

55! That's shorts and flip flop weather around my side of town! I woke to 28 degrees this morning, on the way to Acton, Castaic had already hit 53* and that was a woohoo moment.
Sheesh! You flat landers!

Yeah, yeah, yeah... My first open water training dive was in a quarry. The water temp at the bottom was 28, and I couldn't afford the wet suit gloves yet!
Of course, after living in Florida, I'm more of a temperature wimp than most Californians.

That was a good day today! Good strong group of riders of whom AT beckens to ride it's bad self. " Leave space between riders cuz you don't know exactly how it's going to go" flashes me back to the shute , where today for a first, somehow I found myself riding down completly sideways and hanging on to a balancing act , living on the edge kind of like a drifter around a corner but going down in a straight line. What do I think about AT? Meh, it's alright. Sure was a picture perfect fall day today! Thanks for the invite Rodney and crowning me the ride leader.

Been a while since I got a big ride in and did so today with the Tour de Tryptophan (24 hr Fully). Set a goal for day 1 at 50 mi. Did a couple laps but had to run an errand. Returned shortly after and hammered out four more laps. Beat my goal by 18 miles, whoo! 68 miles 6300' gain. That was cool but the best part of the day was seeing Brad, aka Moose, hanging out. Last year Brad broke his back at SS. Today I saw him ride a beach cruiser around the parking lot. Hallellujah! Good times. Tomorrow? Hmmmm.

I was soo tempted to jump on the AT ride, been wanting to do it for a while but unfortunately the time constraints today wouldn't allow:(....looks like you all had a good time !

I did get the opportunity to get me boy off the game console and out to ride some new dirt for him at Bonelli. Just did a loop around the park starting from Brackett. Gio did great and cleaned many of the climbs, including the switchbacks, yes! Ended up with 9.3 mIles and 1000 gain, not bad for a little dude!
