I Rode My Bike Today...

Social Thursday... @horsebikerider and @mtnbikej chose The Bell Trail to Caspers and back. I don't ever mind that choice because I can ride from home, it's a mellow cruise, and there are tacos waiting at the end. Trifecta.

It's also one of the first places I rode once I built up a little endurance... Back when I was a rider with less experience. Someone new to the sport. If only there were an honorific for that... Something with "new" in the title. Hmmm... :whistling:

17/2000... Bikes, conversation, hyperventilating (just me), and tacos...

Evening ride in the south hills. Kinda' full from dinner, but just cruised it, and felt great after I got spinning! A couple roadies and a couple trail runners, nobody else that I saw. Cleaned the little drop in that I fell over on last time, so feel better about myself already!

Hospital Sunday, flat on my back Monday and riding my bike today!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I did a custom Snow Summit - Skyline experience. Up the chairlift to avoid unnecessary trauma to my recovering leg. Backtrack Skyline to the East to find the herd. Found 'em. Rode with the herd west on Skyline to Clark's grade where we parted company. I returned to Snow Summit along Skyline then dropped Going Green. Way more than I expected I would be able to do.

Then beer on the deck while awaiting the rest of the pack to complete their ride. I am sure there will be a separate report for this.

18 miles and 1700' plus one chairlift ride for me. Bikes are fun. Recovering appendages that allow me to ride are funnerer!

And the Hooligans and Hooligals were a Hoot - as always!

Your tax dollars hard at work...

They actually went out this week and BLADED Harding Truck Trail. If you had told me they were getting ready to pave it, I would not have been surprised. Last week it was in great shape... this week, after numerous thousands of dollars of contractor money, it is in GREATER shape.

It is likely now the most immaculate (from a 4WD perspective) fire road in the entire CNF. Forget for a moment, that it is a secondary road, locked, and only used in the event of emergency. It doesn't matter to the forest service. Main Divide? Maple Springs? Who give a Sh!t... as long as Harding Truck Trail is perfectly flat with a nice covering of loose rock... the rangers can sleep well at night.

Anyone willing to guess how much money has been spent in the last couple of month of grading Main Divide south of the peak? Of cleaning up Trabuco Canyon? The creekbed at the bottom of Holy Jim? I am assuming nothing. It's like the rangers decide what needs the most work... and then they do the opposite. I am not kidding that Harding Truck Trail has probably seen ten vehicle trips in the last 11 months... since the LAST time they bulldozed it.

At any rate... did my weekly out and back on Harding. Unlike last weekend, there were tons of people out. Hikers... backpackers... bikers. Saw two e-bikers, but they didn't go very far on the trail. One turned back at the springs, and the other didn't make it even that far.

Rode LCWP/El Moro yesterday with a group of friends. Started at 8am, from Coastal Peak Park. Hit Lizards, then hung a left to Upper Laurel? and then under the toll road to Camarillo with the fun chunky switchbacks, then swung a right and continued on the single track towards the LCWP main lot. Headed up Willow (weather was still overcast!) and saw a lady about 2/3 the way up "the wall" that was injured. She was with (assuming) her daughter and one other gal, and a baby. Saw a kid on an e-bike screaming back down Willow to get help (he had passed us on the way up). A few minutes later we heard sirens and a saw a helo circling and hovering overhead. I didn't stick around to see if they air lifted her out or what. When I passed her they said she had rolled/hurt her left ankle and the kid went for help. I thought about heading over to Old Emerald but wasn't really wanting to climb back out....so I hung a right on Bommer and entered El Moro. Fun jaunt through Missing Link to Fenceline and back to the vehicle at Coastal Park.

This was my second ride on the flats/5.10 shoes and I can say I'm getting more used to them on the climbs now, really liking them a lot. I'm still adjust though when I come to a stop...still flick my right heel outward to disengage the imaginary clipless pedal. :geek:

San Juan trail up to BlueJay and back through Viejo tie to Cocktail Rock and back down. Started at about 8 am and quickly passed 6 riders coming down before I got to the top of the first set of switchbacks. That would be the last human sighting until about the same spot on my way back down. Love it when I am all alone with no nonsense. The trail is overgrown in just about all places, especially north of cocktail rock. San Juan from Chiquito turn off up to BlueJay is severely overgrown. And, in desperate need of grooming. Both of my forearms are sliced up from all the branches/leaves. Multiple dismounts from hungry branches grabbing me as I rode by. The climb from chiquito to bluejay is freaking brutal. Not because of the elevation gain, that is minimal. The chunk along with the overgrowth is taxing on the body. I feel like I did a full body workout this morning. Got back to Cocktail and had it all to myself, love it. Finished the last of my Tailwind and charged down back to the car. Great day for a ride, just under 23 miles and just over 4200'. GOOD TIMES!!!!!

Good ride there. Based on how bad lower SJ was a while back....I can only imagine how bad the upper loop is.

Late afternoon stroll around LCWP and El Moro yesterday.

Nice temps at 4:30 roll from Ridge Park. Lizard is getting worked....still fun.

Slow cruise under the toll road and down Camarillo. Cruised over to Willow. Willow wasn't blazing hot for once. Made my way out to Old Emerald. Was feeling a little off on the way down. Climbed back up Emerald Canyon, over to ML/FL. Dropped down into Deer Camp and climbed up Ticketron. WARNING!!!!! There is a ton of poison oak at the bottom of Ticketron. The top of the trail was a giant tunnel.

Dropped down No Dogs and made a run down Mach One....been a long time since I had ridden a squishy bike down that.

Up I Think I Can....again, not blazing hot for once. Up Moro Ridge back to ML/FL and back to Ridge Park.

Marine layer rolled in and kept temps chilled towards the end.

That’s a full ride on the P-12 trails Sara.
You are just sand bagging until the next Mulisha ride on Wednesday :gotnothing: :)

Huh... I drove past and saw the helo flying around and the emergency vehicles at Willow. That's a lot of equipment for a rolled ankle!

Um... I rode a little yesterday. Out of the garage, into O'Neill with every intention of doing a quick run to the Luge. As I was approaching the end of the mesa trail, there were a couple trail runners that dropped into Twisted Tire, so I opted for the road descent. 31.4 mph... At the bottom, I made a left and headed for the creek. It was at this point that the front tire started to wobble really bad, and I remembered that I loosened the stem bolts when the bike was on the rack for Big Bear. I can't even imagine a road crash at 30+ mph.:confused::confused::confused:

I had no tools, so I turned around and headed home with my floppy steering. Tightened the stem bolts in the garage, and headed back out for a quickie around the hood, including Waterworks.

For the rest of the ride, I could swear that the bolts were coming loose whenever I hit a bump...

You don't carry any tools with you on rides?! Just a mini-combo tool and a folding pocket knife is all you need. It's all I bring for local rides from home.

I do not pack in preparation for flat tires, though. I've never had one pedaling from home since I went tubeless so many years ago. I figure that I can call the wifey to come rescue me if I do get a flat or if I have to, I can just push my bike home. And of course, I've just cursed myself saying this...:D
