What's your favorite hydration pack?

Love this threads revitalized! I have been thinking about my pack lately as well. I moved to a hip pack as I wanted to be hip like all the young cool kids. :whistling::rolleyes:

Paul… @pperrelle GAVE me a hip pack quite a while ago as he was not using it. Gotta be honest (no… lie Mikie ) it’s the best pack I have ever had! I have been meaning to re-thank my good buddy Paul, who ironically… I have never met personally.
So Paul! Thanks again!

Discovering the double-bottle adapter for the bike frame was what really opened up hip packs as an option for me. Without it there would be too many rides where I wouldn't have enough water.

I alternate between these two hip-packs, depending on the ride I'm doing.

This Savu is what I use 98% of the time. It holds 2 water bottles, and I can carry 2 bottles on the bike frame. ~100 oz. Modest pockets have enough space for all I need (tube is strapped to the frame). This hip pack is stable and comfortable - no jostling, even in 'the gnar' or while 'getting rad'. (Yeah, right, like I know how to do that. )

This Dakine something-er-other has a 70 oz bladder, and I can carry a bottle in the aftermarket pouch I added on the left side. (For that matter, the pouch on the right could hold a bottle too.) 70 oz plus 1 bottle in a pouch plus 2 bottles on the frame is a LOT of water. I usually only use this for rides pushing the 'adventure' envelope. This pack does bounce up and down, even with just the 70 oz bladder. It's a little less comfortable, too, which influences my choice of which pack to use.

I've got the same pack and it's my go-to unless I need to carry more stuff.

Maybe I'm part camel  My biggest option is an osprey viper 9. I can carry 2.5l (85oz for you non metric weird beards) in that bad boy + a frozen water bottle to rejuvenate a fading Borselleck. Shorter rides are either just a bottle on the frame or 2 bottles with one in a Dakine hip pack.
When the Osprey dies I'll switch to an USWE, those things look the business and I love the idea of an integrated gopro chest mount.

I hear yah! I think this pack is very well thought out.

Outside flap for storing a windbreaker.

First zipper has a cell phone specific felted pocket, large area for spare tube and trail pump. The other pocket carries my tool bag.

Tool bag has a ziplock in it with spare brake pads, retainer bolt and brake spring, a section of chain and chain quick connect. The tool bag also has in it a shifter cable, a pair of tire tools, my multi tool, and a puncture repair kit.

The last zipper pocket has a well designed water pouch.

If I need more than this, then I’m probably doing the walk of shame, or getting a helicopter ride. :sneaky:

The ONLY drawback to a hip pack I have found is you have to keep tightening the belt as you drink your water. For me it takes two hands. The next evolution would be to engineer a one handed cinching system you just ratchet to tighten…. Hmmm… Mikie is thinking aftermarket.:whistling:
