What’s everyone riding these days?

Be careful of the "what bikes work best for ______ location?" discussion. As everybody above has said, there are so many great bikes, it's hard to go wrong. And yes, most everything CAN be ridden on a hardtail, but how you define fun is up to you. Some people relish in riding difficult terrain on minimal bikes. Frankly, I probably wouldn't even ride if I could only ride hardtails. We all like different things in our riding.

Get what moves you - but do not neglect geometry.
I certainly did not want to make this about what people can vs can't ride and definitely appreciate people wanting to have certain characteristics to their ride. Mostly looking to see if there was a category of bike I was missing out on, something like the GG smash that was recommended above.

Speaking of bikes that move you (me) that GG Smash makes me feel things, but so does the Transition Sentinel. This is going to be a tough decision!

The Sentinel is on my list, along with the Patrol. Universal Cycles in Stydio City is having a demo day on Jan 27th. Transition bikes will be there. Will you??

Just put a new tire on my road bike, it seems the trails will not be supporting my wish to get out. I could go on the trails and get megga mud, I would need to carry a good scraper to get the mud off the tires so it can roll. Then I would scar the trails for the new year but that is not my style
Happy sloppy mud scraping trails

Do you have details on it? If nothing I test between now and then forces a purchase then you bet ill be there

This is all I got.

Build weights on the Transition bikes, including the CF ones, seem to be a topic of discussion. I think it's one of the few 29ers that will build out heavier than my Smash at ~32. In fairness, the Sentinel is more than a trail bike, and like most can be built somewhat with a skew one way or another.

@trailslayer: What does your Patrol weight?

That was the topic of discussion in Palm Canyon. That bike might be the heaviest on the forum! And I still couldn't keep up with him going uphill. :D

Ok, I'll play.

I'm still riding a 2015 Giant XTC hardtail, in a subdued blue/gray color combo. Why? Because it does what I want to do. Heck, it'll do more than I want to do.

I'm also riding a 2017 Giant Defy road bike. Why? Because it goes where I want it to go, and it fit the price point. Many would claim this is ugly (Red..but it grew on me).

And then there's my bike I didn't need, but wanted to build. Steel frame 2018 Kona Sutra LTD, built up the way I wanted. Purty bike. Goes everywhere. Just because a steel frame "adventure" bike called out to me.

I've been in the market for a new bike and have kept going back and forth on the Sentinel Vs Smuggler. I've ridden both and they're both fun, but I wouldn't sleep on the Smuggler. In fact, if I wasn't planning on riding a lot of lift access stuff I'd probably go with the Smuggler over the Sentinel, it's a really fun bike and way more than capable for the majority of riding that we do around here.

I pulled the trigger last night... and will have a Tallboy frame heading my way soon!

Backcountry/CC came up with a bunch of 2018 models out of somewhere for 35% off retail.
Plus another 10% rebate via Activejunky.
Then another 2% back from my CC.
I was pushing half off retail, and couldn't resist, even though I just spent a lot of money on bikes in the house.
I'm going to piece it together slowly in order to bring the family budget back into line, but hopefully soon this will be my answer to "What's everyone riding these days?"

Looks killer, congrats!!!

I’m truly wondering if I will be able to ride a hardtail well enough to own one due to my back and plans for the year. Not ready to Classify it, but if one of you reprobates has been pondering a rad steel HT, it’s a medium Pedalhead 29/275+, frame only. For 120-140 fork. I’d say perfect for a 5’9”–5’10” rider with 0-2” ape index; I’m 5’10.5 with +3.5 ape index and rode it a bunch. Ping me if you’re in the imtbrohood and we can work it out.
