Visiting OC Sept 9 looking for trails to hit

Had a really fun ride today and glad I got to finally meet some folks from here, including the out of town guest of honor. I have been lucky to get one ride in a week lately so I definitely felt the climbing. Yes, it was me who barfed on the way up to the Luge and also cramped up at the end after the Luge. Perhaps I got a little dehydrated after losing all the water in my stomach. :gag:

Thanks for a good time out there and for waiting for me, I usually ride alone so it was a nice change to ride with good dudes.

It was and he did...

That was a nice looking bike... I think he would have enjoyed it more with a lot less air in the tires. I gave the back a squeeze after hearing he went down on the Luge, and there was too much air in there. Plus tires really start to bounce and deflect with only a pound or two too much, and he probably had 20+ psi. For the Luge, I ran my 2.8s at 14-15.

Nice meeting everyone. Fun ride (my first time riding the luge actually). Thanks for waiting for me on every, single, climb.

Ohhhh, it was? I didn't know that! I hope you enjoyed it, and no worries about waiting for you on the climbs, I used to be 'that guy' and was always super gracious for people waiting. I'm more than happy to repay that kindness to others during group rides.

I have read - and it makes sense - that the plus size tires have an extremely narrow band of maximum performance. 1 psi the wrong way either makes for a mushy, sloppy mess of a tire or a bouncy pogo stick. I didn't know he was running that much pressure. That could explain why he was able to climb better than he expected, and explains the crash that Bill described as "getting bucked."

Sorry for the late post, been traveling for work. Thank you for showing me a great time, I really enjoyed myself and it continued on the next day with AMTR ride. The camaraderie on Friday was second to none and I felt like I was amongst friends that I had been riding with for years, and then running into D'animal the next day was cool. I was intimidated from all I read and watched, never climbed that much and once I did, it really did boost my confidence. I watched the video and there is a ton of profanity of me coming down the Luge. I think once I figure out how to upload it, everyone will enjoy it.
Thanks again for a great time and will post the video shortly.

Let us know when you're back in the area! There's a lot more to choose from around here...

Steve- The Lone hard tail single speed on the ride.

Let's see that the group thinks... There's always the Whiting- Luge we did last time, or we could add on the rest of Santiago Truck Trail. It keeps going for another 5 miles past where we dropped into the Luge. It's a popular out and back, and then drop the Luge... I'd guess the numbers on that are 25ish and 4000+.

Our national forest has recently opened a cool descent... It's been closed for 2 years due to fire. It's a fire road climb to the top of the mountain range, across the ridge for 6 miles, and then a 3 mile techy single track downhill called Motorway. (17 miles and 3600 feet for the short route)

Let's see what the others come up with...

Hey All,
Returning to OC for a weekend and was hoping to see if anyone up for a ride on June 30th and/or July 1st? Maybe do Whiting Ranch and the Luge like last time? Thanks and hope to hear from you guys
July 1 will be my first day back on a bike since the Wrightwood party on June 9. I would really like to hit something techy. I haven't ridden a challenging trail since my Eminent Haste Demo on April 14.

EDIT: Luckily, I'm off by a week. I will be able to ride this Sunday, June 24th. Yay!
