Vision Quest and Counting Coup Returns 2021 (Oops... 2022)

Looking at the results- 25 participants in Vision cup and 50% DNF in Counting cup I doubt they'll have resources to pull another one of these..

They definitely skew toward the middle aged and older crowd. If they dont get younger riders to attend they won't have a choice but to stop cause they'll all age out!
And a few my age or older, who'd a thought.

Because of the fire closures the last 4 years….the traditional route has not been doable.

This was kind of a stop gap type route to use was was available. It was not ideal….the route was horrible. After 2 years of not having events….people signed up just to do something.

the traditional VQ route is a solid ride. For in shape riders, it’s easily doable. For weekend warriors it is truly a test of your abilities and mental strength.

What is DNS?
I know DNF and only a few of those.
And DFL, we can see that one.

As J says, it's "Did not Start/Show", which is worse than DNF.

I signed up 100 years ago when we thought that the normal course would be open "after" the pandemic... The Warriors sent emails over the last year saying that anyone who wanted to be removed from the event just had to send an email.

You're over 150 years old?

And if you didn't see the check box for the ~2008 DVD you had to go back and find that, thus losing your chance to secure a spot in the first five minutes, cuz it sold out in six -at midnite, on a Friday or something.
The only time I attempted the CC, I was on a trip and had to wake up for midnight to try and register, and succeeded.
When it came to the "race" I was OTB immediately.
That was the first time I met and rode with J.
He was probably more sore than me having to ride so slow from Motorway to 4Corners when I missed the cutoff.

Does anyone know where the second aid station will be for this weekends VQ/CC? The info email today mentioned two aid stations but only the location for the first at Maple. The last time I did this event the second was at the top of upper HJ if I remember? With all the new/reformed trails and no more WHT/Trabuco, I am assuming maybe it’ll be near the peak?

Chance of rain Saturday. When I did CC there was no aid station anywhere. While I understand that fees must be paid to the USFS for the event, the lack of any worthwhile support during the event kinda makes the $100 fee unsupportable.

If this is your thing, go for it. Just be prepared to be self-sufficient for the entire route.

They listed a host of sponsors supplying food and water at two stations. So I assume they will follow through with that. Did they say they were providing aid when you did it and they did not? I did both events quite a few years back and there was always plenty of aid.

Same as you. I’ve done VQ 7 times and always been well stocked aid stations in fact better than the whiskey 50.

@mtnbikej will have more knowledge than me. But based on what I understand from conversations at the Saturday brushing of Holy Jim there's no marshals or stations planned to be after Santiago Peak.

Really no need after the peak. It’s all downhill from there. Only reason there was before was the old VQ course heading back up the hill.

Is it too late for me to enter?

Any CC/VQ ride reports, conditions, participants? I was looking up there on Saturday wondering if it was still the same type of scene as it was in the past. Hopefully the weather wasn’t too limiting

They postponed it to June 8. Same weekend as Hardman. I hope they move it again to the Fall sometime.
