Unoffically Official 2017 VQ and CC Thread

I tentatively put next Monday 2/12 on my calendar for a day off to ride. Most likely hitting Black Star since it is close to home and a good gauge of my current fitness. Company is welcomed if anyone has a wild hair for a random Monday ride.

Monday no bueno for me. But I've gotta decide what's on for Friday.

Someone needs to keep an eye on me again this year!

If you would like to experience the event without doing the event...volunteers are needed:

WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACT AS A SUPPORT VOLUNTEER FOR THE COUNTING COUP AND VISION QUEST?

We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to act as support for the Vision Quest and Counting Coup. If you have a 4X4 vehicle, have EMT training (we are only required to have 1 EMT on the course, we have 2 already volunteering but we’d like to have two or more), or a dual sport we’d love to have you as a volunteer.

We will reimburse you for the gas you use acting as support, feed you, and and will give a free comp to the Trabuco Challenge as well as an event t-shirt.

As a reminder, the event is on Saturday, April 7th.

If interested email Chris at:

Going to head out to Black Star on Tuesday so I can see how bad this really is for me this year, took the day off work for a ride day. My legs are burning after a 13 mile/1600ft ride this morning! Last year I was riding at least once a week or so before the event, this year I’m lucky to ride twice in one month. Still showing up regardless, I’ve always been a procrastinator.

Soooo....

It seems I miscalculated. While I will be in town the day of the Counting Coup, I won't be for most of the week before it and, given my anemic (read: nonexistent) training schedule, it is highly unlikely that I will be ready/able to make a valid effort at the ride (race? Hah!!). I'm not a young pup like those who can just show up and ride it. :bang:

The email I got from WS says the entry is transferable, and something about a month prior. I don't know whether that means I have to wait until one month prior, or I can't do it later than one month prior. Regardless, here's your chance if you wanted to do CC but didn't register before it sold out. I'll eat the $25 transfer fee for anyone who really wants in and buys the entry from me for its original face value. If no one wants it, I've made a donation to WS and I'll consider it a good cause.

You may now proceed to razz me unmercifully until April 7. :p:rolleyes:

I say, you signed up....you go, you ride. Even if you only make it to the bottom of Motorway. Once again, DNF is always better than DNS.

It's fun to be part of the start.....the conga line of lights going up Blackstar is worth the price of admission.

I actually agree with you...and I think I said something along those lines to someone else last year. But I figured I'd give anyone who really wanted it a chance to jump in.

If no one does, I may show and do exactly what you say.

While I agree with this in principle.... Poor weather conditions are an exception. A DNS last year would have been better than a DNF after doing all kinds of damage to the bike. hahaha

Hoping to start training after this next rainstorm.

Lol, just kidding, I’m not really “training” at all... more like skipping lunch after having a breakfast burrito or keeping it to just a few beers at lunch on weekends. And only a few beers after work on weekdays. Got a clear day to ride on Friday but gonna be raining, maybe I’ll just go ride Holy Jim in the rain. Regardless of what happens I’ll be there come race day, what happens after that is up in the air.

@Cornholio, can you recommend a good beer for climbing?

Just got an email from Warrior Society, that packet pickup is Wed and Thur April 4 and 5, at the Path (this is not any form of nearby), from 6 pm to 7 pm. Would be really, really cool if they'd include Friday, since it's highly unlikely I'll be home in time on Thursday to make this happen, and Wednesday is out of the question. Even better if they'd mail it...after all, they have my address and I've already paid. o_O

I really don't want to get up that much earlier Saturday morning.

Boo. Hiss.

I can get yours and meet you before the start on event day...

It says in the email that friends can pick up packets...
