Tighten Yer Stem Bolts

Not sure if your cast will fit a handlebar grip, but your braking finger's good to go! j/k

And I hope you're kidding about the digging.

But seriously, if this rain keeps up there will be digging.. and I will happily sling a few shovel full's for ya.
Where ya diggin' mi amigo?

You ready to join the dark side yet? :ninja:
Nope. I ride for fun. And this is a minor injury.

BTW - dark side used to refer to gravity riders, because we often dress like stormtroopers and give in to the temptation of the fun side of gravity's pull - despite the increased risk of injury!

I would say that riding methodically uphill on light 29ers to concentrate on fitness is the enlightened side, eschewing the temptation of bigger suspension and rowdy descents that might ultimately lead to shuttling or a lift ticket purchase - and more frequent x-rays.

Get on yur dang bike...
Yeah, about that...

I want the bones to properly knit and really surround the screws before I subject them to handlebar vibration or pounding. I don't want the screws backing out, or the bones shifting around. I don't want to have to go back in and repair the repair. Soooo, a little discretion and a couple more weeks of healing.

I will ride my bike Saturday with my wife and daughter, and I may even hit a little bit of dirt trail, but nothing tilted or rough. Happy Birthday to me!

December:thumbsup:. I used to play all those songs on that CD. We should jam sometime.

I absolutely love everything Collective Soul. Great stuff to play on my Paul Reed Smith. I suck at guitar, BTW, but I can play a mean G-D-C progression with occasional e minor for color. Fun to play The Cult too - for similar reasons.

So I went in for my 6-week checkup with my surgeon today. I started by placing both hands on the table. It took him a minute to figure out which hand was surgerized.

He looked at the x-rays and said - "Well, looks like you're basically completely healed. You can start easing yourself back into activities. Try riding your bike on the road for minimal impact and do that for the next six weeks while you ease yourself back into activity." I look at him and say, "Uh, doc, I rode my Mtb on May 7th, four weeks after surgery. I tried a gentle loop on real - but mild - mtb trails. It didn't hurt, so I did a second loop, much faster. I gave it another week then to see if it would swell up or cause pain. Nope. So I did two much harder rides the following weekend. No problem. I've now done five mtb rides." He looks at me, shakes his head and says - "you healed like a man half your age." :)

Yay me! I will still "take it easy" for the next six weeks to let the bones get solid, but here's the deal - while I may be among the least in-shape of the frequent posters on this forum, we are all far better off than our age-mates who do not do this. I LOVE the look on doctors' faces when they check blood pressure, heart rate and whatnot, then double check the age.:whistling::sneaky:

There is no doubt everything becomes stronger with mtb, the mind, muscle, and even the bones with indirect impact in my opinion. Also, reading the weight loss thread and hearing how good one feels when they have the strength and will power to feel better with a little effort! Don't forget how that feels. I'm convinced that 95% of Americans never know or have completly forgot what it feels like to feel good, including many children. Glad you healed quick Hertz, good on you.

I guess I'm only 17 then, rad!

I have a titanium plate in my right arm with 6 screws from my Snow Summit hucking days on the snowboard. Funny thing is that tennis and golf make my arm hurt but riding does not at all (light hands on the bars? ;)). I call the scar on my wrist my pet worm, could be a cool tattoo to make a face on it if I were into that but I'm not.

BTW - I suggest wrist twisting motion like exercises after a wrist plate surgery. I can't shoot a basketball worth beans anymore because my right arm doesn't rotate enough.

Awesome to hear Herz! I look forward to chasing you up the climbs on our local trails in the near future.

(This is why he keeps me around, one of the few people that climbs slower than him :P)

I should probably just stay home this weekend and not tempt fate, but I'm gonna go back to the scene of the crime AND more chunk on the menu. Wish me luck.

PS - It may not have been my stem bolts, but a good idea to check yer bolts anyway.

Good luck!!

You mean you may have just made an error OTHER THAN not tightening yer stem bolts??? Sacre bleu!!

Ironically or coincidentally, as I headed back to the scene of my broken hand one year ago today (well, it was April 2, but it was a Saturday), I did check my stem bolts, and both were relatively loose, needing a half to 3/4 turn each to tighten them up!

It's 2:00 AM, and I can't sleep. But, I did just run down to the garage and check my stem bolts. :whistling:

Maybe those 3 espressos at dinner time weren't such a great idea...
