These are dangerous times for cyclists

The pandemic is making people healthier?
That's one good thing about the pandemic. Once people were told they could go outside again, they didn't hesitate. The streets on my route are overrun with people. Running skating, cycling. I delivered a couple of surfboards the other day. The guy told me he couldn't find bikes anywhere so he decided to try surfing.

No, not that kind of danger...the danger of not being able to find parts needed when they are needed immediately!!!

Has anyone else noticed the lack of availability of parts since the mighty pandemic set in? The tires I am looking for are not available, not even directly through the manufacturer. The pedals I am looking for (multiple brands/models) are nearly impossible to get. I went to four shops this morning, casually looking for pedals. Two of the shops did not have in stock what their website said was "in store". Get with it people!!! Another shop turned out to be a roadie focused shop (I'd never been there before), and the last shop has funky closed days due to the pandemic. Even online, more things are out of stock than usual.

I work in a shop and basic things like tire, tubes and brake pads are impossible to get. It could be months before we can see distributors get product and it will be sold out again in a day or two. Some new model bikes (2021) have been pushed back to March or April of 2021.

The shop I used to work at has been reduced to selling Hyper and Motiv brand bikes-if they can get them. I hate to see those poorly made toys being sold in a real shop.
They are backed up for weeks on repairs, waiting for parts.
Glad I'm not there. I'd be working my ass off for shitty wages with a psycho co-worker

I have learned that I'll just have to wait a bit longer for parts. I just order it and wait. Like the good old days!
My nephew in China is an mtber thanks to me, so I have a source for parts on that side.

We had to start selling lesser brands also, Firmstrong and XDS. We have been getting leftover Trek’s and Specialized’s just to keep bikes on the floor.

Getting parts are hit and miss, like you said everything is a wait and a long wait on certain parts.

My local shops all had rounds of hiring people to assemble bikes, have you seen that as well? Wonder if it's a one-time thing or if it's ongoing.

We have two full time builders and I build the high end stuff when needed. We also have four full time mechanics and finally have gotten caught up. It might keep going till Christmas, I don’t know when it will end.

But we still have a lot of work coming in daily, especially flats. We get up to 20 flats a day. It gets ridiculous sometimes.

Haven't been impacted too bad, yet, personally. After junking another rear wheel a few weeks back I found a Race Face wheelset on the clearance rack at Jenson for $200. Thought that would hold me over a few months until I bought something nicer (I got three rides). But tire options seemed limited; went with the only DD tires available which was a DHF and Aggressor (wanted Assagei/DHR).

Rear XO1 Eagle derailer was in stock.

I'd love to have a better stockpile of spares, maybe I will someday. But my living conditions are pretty fluid and I am trying to reduce storage right now until I figure things out.

GF had run into problems though. She's in the budget bike market. She found one...then got hit by a car (she was 0% at fault).
