The Wrightwood 50- 2018 Edition

Virtually tied the race. I lost by about 2 seconds on a sprint to the finish. I missed two turns costing me about 8 minutes total. And the dead GPS didn't help with the last two turns. The guy who beat me passed me while I was trying to figure out the entrance to the last DH, so I followed him. Then I sprinted by at the end of the long road descent when it flattened out. But I missed the turn to the 'finish' and my sprint behind him wasn't enough.

We both broke the course record by 8 minutes!

Next year I will have the whole course nailed down in my head.

Oh, and I got hit by a Jeep. Or, more like a gentle bump, when the driver didn't pay attention that there was more than one bike rolling up the street (Jeep had a stop sign, we did not). Luckily, no injury. Just a boost of adrenaline!

You and Carl both passed me coming down Boy Scout, he was just a couple mins back. I figured he would catch you, he was on a mission after a torn sidewall last year.

I finished right on 10 hrs. Great for me since I only got cleared to ride last month after ACL surgery. I think this was 15 mins faster than last year.

Wow, hell of a physical therapy ride!

I missed the entrance to Fenner DH in the lead (Garmin was confused on the route, and I forgot), but passed Carl and Guy on the prison climb. Missed the turn going down Boyscout and got passed by Carl again, but passed him just before jumping back on Hwy 2 to Tabletop. He passed me on the paved trail while I was trying to find my way, and I chased him down the Kare Camp DH. Passed him again on the road just before the turn to the Yodeler...but missed the the road. He had nothing left, but I sprinted behind him. But the sprint wasn't enough. Fun way to end a race!
