The swag van...

Isnt Mike Sinyard a MTB’r ?
Probably. There are so many great mt. bikes that come from brands that only do mt. bikes. Brands that don't feel like every decision they make is to squeeze another dollar out of you, or to try to eliminate competition. Brands where you can actually develop a personal relationship with the engineer, owner or CEO. I prefer that type of company: Yeti, Knolly, Guerilla Gravity, Pivot, Transition, Intense, Turner, Ibis, Foes and so many more.

Again, Special-Ed make some great products. I just prefer other options.

Luis is no victim.
That’s right! Always have a escape plan at the ready

@Luis, you seem to be doing alright, but there must be some residual trauma (I noticed in a recent photo you were dressed in protective clothing). Not meaning to be insensitive, but I wonder if there any particular smells or visuals that trigger unpleasant memories?
Funny I say.

My best friends own an LBS that is a Spec dealer. Otherwise, I am not brand loyal.

However, my E29 is a hell of a bike. Though, I would probably think the same of any decent long travel bike that didn't break.

That's me. Guilty of working at a Specialized dealer. First mtb was an 86 Stumpjumper.
Funny thing, in all my years at the shop, I have not heard one bad word about the brand, it's owners, or its business practices, from a customer. Only on internet boards.
Hmmmm....

Speaking of the van, it is currently under recall from Ford concerning a drive shaft issue. The Dealer wants the van for a "week to ten days" to fix it. I told them I would need an loaner and they said that they don't provide one and don't have too.
Is that right?

Has more to do with their business ethics and how they deal with the LBS’s.
Not exactly - its' not a product preference thing - it's a company's business practices thing.

Lets just say for the sake of argument that Specialized made the best of everything they produce. They were head and tail above the others in quality, design, effectiveness, and efficiency. But....they still had that hardass, cut throat business model going for them that pisses so many people off.

What would you do? Go with the best of the best, or go with the second best and accept the risk?

We bought Suz a '99 Enduro from Supergo. She rode it a year or two, then we moved on to SC.

I've wanted to try some of their tires....but I'm ok with not giving them my money.

My guess is that's dealer-specific. Try calling other Ford dealers. Recall means they get paid for the work so they should be glad to have you.
10 days to replace a drive-shaft? The service rep must be moving to a new dwelling and needs to use your van... I'd tell them to call you when they have ALL the parts inhouse to do the work and look up the typical service hours for that work, prob a few hours to do...

In retrospect... When I took our Honda Odyssey in for a tranny replacement recall, they also didn't offer a loaner.
But a Lexus or BMW in for an oil change, you'd get a loaner.
It all depends on the individual dealership and the clout they have with the factory.
We don’t have loaner vehicles currently but we are allowed to offer a rental vehicle for one or two days without much hassle. Anything beyond that requires and ok from our factory rep.
Of course, that’s Honda for you. So you’re screwed @rossage :whistling:

We now return you to the thread already in progress...
