North Yungas Road, Bolivia

Also known as "Death Road," North Yungas Road connects the city of La Paz to Coroico in North Yungas, Bolivia and is considered the world's most dangerous road. The narrow dirt road, which was built into the side of the Cordillera Oriental Mountain chain by Paraguayan prisoners in the 1930s, has a death toll of about 300 people a year, according to the History Channel. The path, most of which is no wider than 12 feet, descends nearly 11,800 feet in just 40 miles, and travelers have to deal with dangers such as aconstant fog, heavy rain, loose rocks, limited visibility and 2,000-foot drop-offs. But that doesn't stop thrill-seeking tourists from traveling (and even bicycling) the infamous road, which has become one of Bolivia's most popular attractions.

Have you ever been on a boat in 20 foot seas at 11 seconds with 55 knot winds?

I was on a 90 foot sportboat once in those conditions out at San Miguel Island. When it's that rough, you are too scared to get seasick.

I'm smarter than that. My "boat" was 1,100 feet long.

But to answer your question, yes. 45 foot swells and solid water over the bow of a ship with 85 feet of freeboard.

And the doomsayers wonder why people don't buy it...with headlines like this???

We're all going to follow our GPS over a cliff.

This statement:
"As temperatures increased throughout the 20th century because of humans, Greenland's ice mass decreased."
In the article bugs me.

Call me a skeptic, but I still doubt very seriously that we are causing the earth to melt. No doubt this will flame a debate. I think NASA is looking for more funding for research and scare tactics is a great way to obtain them. What "do" I believe. I think the earth is warming on it's own despite our activity. "Everyone... open up your freezers so we can chill the earth back down..."

Nah, we are causing it. We have over inhabited the planet. We have now become the pest that is damaging it.

You live out in the sticks, so you experience it differently than we do. Night time temps stay much warmer these days....why? Over development. All of these unnatural materials: concrete/asphalt hold in the heat. No longer are we getting the overnight cool down. Head out into undeveloped areas, the temps are cooler.

Eventually the planet will say enough and hit the reset button again.

I, for one, think we are contributing but I do not think we are the cause. It's been proven that this is a natural and normal global cycle.

When all the glaciers finally do melt (the end of our current Ice Age), many of us will have beach front property. Now, how can you go wrong with that?!

Ah, that's refreshing. It would seem that you agree with me that we should go back to living in simplicity that is not over-taxing our planet: Living in handmade huts and spending our days farming and hunting (and mountain biking).

I’m with the snake on this one, I don’t think we’re the cause, but we’re not helping matters! It’s all cyclical, nothing stays the same.

My dad and I went out on his Sailboat, a 45 foot Catalina off the coast of Pt. Fermin, Waves were huge and the Mainsail got stuck and yours truly had to climb the mast to get it unstuck. Scary stuff.

Clueless spouses are the best.

My wife's birthday is this coming Saturday. She learned at last to just tell me what she wants, and so I got it for her. It was to be delivered today, so I boogie home to get it and stash it before she gets home. I pull up and, crap, she's already home.

Double crap, the neighbor saw it delivered to the porch and retrieved it.

Triple crap - the neighbor flags down the wife to give it to her. :bang:

It only says Sephora on the box...she never really looked at it, and she hands it to me and says "here's your bike parts.":p:p:p:p

Thanks, honey!!! Birthday rescued.
