So what are you going to get next?

Had to look up what Carmax would give me for mine, not that I'm considering selling. Their quote lists Edmunds value of $30,300 and their offer is $36k. Not bad for a 2yr old truck that just hit 40,000miles. I paid $37k for it including tax, title, fees.

Nothing right away. I figure what I gained because of the current market would just get washed away by purchasing in same the market. The 3rd vehicle came to be during my previous job when I was driving close to 30k miles a year. Now that I’m at about half that we’ll probably muddle through with 2 cars (a sedan and a small SUV) for the time being. I did really like the utility of having a truck though. Might look at a full size truck once market conditions return to normal. I’m curious to see what the new Tundra hybrid and EV models will look like.

Yeah I wouldn't want to be buying a truck in the current market either. Tacoma's are absurdly priced for used vehicles even in normal times. I flipped through Craigslist as well and saw plenty of ads in the 40's and even 50k's. And trucks with salvage titles well into the 30s.

I plan to hold onto mine for a while. Hopefully by the time I'm in the market again electric vehicles will be a good option with plenty of charging infrastructure.

So here I am on vacation at the Beach, beautiful ocean view, steps from the sand, that sun finally came out today and life is pretty good.
Then I went to my car for a Trader Joes run, you know, for Beer, snacks for guests coming over and all. Get into my CR-V, pop the sunglass holder and the Maui Jims are not there. o_O Did I take them to the beach...naw, I have an other pair I use for that, did I put them in my pack, nope not there. Thinking what happened...I used them yesterday afternoon and when I parked the car put them back. Then I started thinking about a post from @SnakeCharmer about his CR-V getting the lock punched not once, but twice! So I went and looked, sure enough, the lock is punched out. Did they take anything else? the wifes Ray Bans are still there ( thieves with taste?? or in a hurry ) and nothing else was in the car that I'm aware of. Thank God I didn't leave the bike in the back overnight, I did think about doing just that.
What a pain the the F'in A**. Now I need to get it fixed, it's a company car too....seriously, I don't really care about the glasses that much, but the cost and inconvenience of the repair pisses me off. Oh well, life goes on and in the big scheme of things..whatev'.

Now as it's happened to me, and The Snake twice, it is obviously a design error. punching the lock and opening. I'm thinking maybe I can superglue the lock and remove the lock punch option all together.
So @SnakeCharmer any advice ? maybe a class action lawsuit against Honda? Capture, Flay and pour salt on the perpetrator? hehehe.....oh to dream. Go full Game of Thrones on them!!!

Bummer! :mad::(

Most any car with a key unlock option can be punched. I've seen it happen to all sorts of vehicles over the years. We should consider ourselves lucky that they only punched the lock on our CRVs because it's SUPER EASY TO FIX, and inexpensive, too. I'd really be pissed if the window was broken out.

If you can turn a Torx wrench, you can fix it yourself. I'll send a PM...

Thanks Snake.
I'll fix it myself and be done with it. I am filed a report, and they'll up the patrols at the state park lot. Or so they said. Maybe it stop at least one person from becoming a victim.
I'm assuming that you didn't have your sunglasses out in plain sight. The dirtbags who are punching door locks and only taking the odd thing (instead of everything) are druggies who are looking for something to sell quick so that they can buy a fix.

They were in the sunglass compartment by the sunroof controls. I never leave anything of value in view, and very seldom in the car more than a few minutes.
Unless they're really thirsty and want a half bottle of water. :eek:that's in plain sight.

Thieves suck!
I had 4 stereos stolen out of my old Wrangler. The worst one was the guy who sliced open the plastic windows. F'ing idiot didn't even realize that the doors had no locks at all.
Turns out it was cheaper to replace the entire top than that single window.

This stunner showed up today. I have to say I haven't been taken aback by a first impression from a car like I was today in quite some time. Truly a knock out in person, and unbelievably well executed.

I mean, the guy that I appear to have sold it to (will find out today) is trading in his 2020 R8 Performance, and is still putting down a chunk of change on top of it, so no, I won't own one of these.
Wait - so you are selling Audis now? Side gig?

If that's the case, we want to trade my wife's 2021 Atlas for a lovingly used Q7. Can you make that happen? The Atlas has had way more issues than a new car should have.

Yeah, full time gig actually. Since February. Had wanted to try it for some time, but had a lot of preconceived ideas as to why it wasn't the right move at this stage in life. Some trusted advisors in the business, and with Audi specifically, set me straight. Decided I'd give it a whirl and then restart the old job once the dust settled with COVID if I didn't enjoy it, or if it otherwise didn't make sense. Aside from having a boss that's not me, and an actual schedule that I don't make, I'm really enjoying it, to the point that I've decided this is the new path. And yeah, I can definitely help with the latter. Will text you.

Do any of you motorheads have any advice on what I might need to ask when getting quotes from body shops?

Long story short, the neighbor's kid backed out of their driveway and straight into our kid's car that was parked at the curb. Normally I'd just go through insurance but, In an effort to keep things friendly, I told them I'd work with them on their paying out-of-pocket. These are our neighbors directly across from us, so, I'm going to assume we're both acting in good faith. TIA!

I don't have any advice, but unless your damage is extremely minor, be prepared to be shocked at the quotes. Their entire business model is based on going through insurance so they can charge rape prices.

I had a (drunk) guy hit my car back in the day and he wanted to handle it privately. He told me to get a couple of quotes and call him. When I did, he got mad at me like I was trying to BS him. Needless to say, he went through insurance. Good luck.

Depends on how bad the damage is. Paintless dent repair guys can do miraculous work sometimes. If you can go that route then it might be better to avoid insurance.
