Heck of a thread resurrection also. Dormant almost 7 years. :Roflmao:Roflmao
Yeah - I could have put it in the surfing and snow sports thread, but it was the distinct comparison to mtb that stood out to me. On a day when only the foolish would go ride a mt bike, I got to enjoy some amazing waves and bonus scenery. Helluva workout without breaking a sweat! Oh - and no crowd. On a Saturday.

This is why I love So Cal and can easily overlook the things that drive so many of you to loathe this place. You just gotta know where to go and when to go there.

I surfed a bit growing up. I sold my two boards during covid when gyms were closed and people were off work - they were pretty beat up and filled with filler and sun cure. People were scrambling to buy anything though so off they went.

My surfing friends moved away years ago. You need to wake up stupid early, linesup are crowded on weekends (only time I can go) and unless you live near the ocean $$$ you'll spend too much money on gas.

I kept my wetsuits and got a nice boogie board and fins. I just go and ride endless beach break all day when I want a surf fix nowadays. They make higher end boards that are size specific and have better internal foam for $130 or so - I have two Science Pipe boards from Val Surf, they carry all the sizes there. They are a decent step up from what you get from Costco or Walmart.

I miss rolling to the beach 4-deep in the darkness in a worn out Volvo but that's more nostalgia than anything.
