South Dakota Trip

Talking to the locals they say that everywhere else people blow the winters out of proportion in Hot Springs. Funny, they said don’t ask a Californian about how cold it gets in South Dakota, ask a South Dakotan! The winters, based on what most people said are no different then where Cathy and I live now. Ever once in a while it will get a kick azz arctic blast cold, from Canada, but hey... I’m an imtb-Canadian so take off eh?! :p
When I was in Denver considering a relo offer, all I heard was “the winters are overblown, sure there’s snow but it never sticks.” Then that winter the snow fell in December and stuck until March. The Californians who took the relo were not amused.

Except for the years that Denver was in the Super Bowl, I played golf in Denver on Super Bowl Sunday almost every one of my 15 years as an adult in CO. The ball goes really far on dormant grass, and it was usually 50° or better and empty. Greens are a little hard though.

Yeah, after that first declined offer i paid attention to Denver weather more, and I noticed that the mountains do a pretty good job of shielding the town, most of the time. But the winter of 2006-2007 was brutal on all the OC natives that did the move.

Did notice that Hot Springs has an above zero score on that USDA amenities map. Beats all those suckers in North Dakota...

  • I keep thinking of my bayou Palace but there is no way a native valley girl is going to move to Creole country. Just paid my parish taxes, 11 acres with a house, 100 bucks and some change.
