Sierra Club stance on MTB

Mr. Scissors sir, your bravado, outrage and warfare rhetoric are admirable, but by your own logic, motos and ATVs should be allowed on "our" land as US Citizens too. Might as well add 4x4s too, since it's their preferred mode of travel. Or are you willing to draw the line at engines? How about electric-assist bicycles? Not quite as simple as "It's my land and I will ride on it as I goddam please."

Not all hikers, or equestrians, or even Sierra Club members, are idiots, or evil, or the same. Just as with any group, there are outliers. Some of them are even capable of reasoned dialogue.

Some are just ignorant. Others are misinformed. Still others are stupid. But they are in the minority.

However, and at the risk of sounding naive and credulous, I took an oath, lo these many moons ago, to protect and defend the constitution of the united States (no, it's not a typo: Lowercase u, uppercase S. Free beer to anyone who knows why) against all enemies, foreign and domestic. So who decides who is an enemy of the constitution? Ultimately we all do, as individuals. I don't expect to change minds here, but that doesn't matter. As long as I am willing to accept the consequences of my actions, I am acting as an adult and a model citizen.

I defy anyone to put his/her finger on the part of the constitution that empowers the congress or president to even establish a national forest, much less a wilderness area. Short course: There is no such power granted. Yes, I know that current practice accepts that there is such authority, but that is irrelevant. Bad precedent is still bad precedent, much like the Supreme Court's finding in Dred Scott, later overturned upon the realization that the reasoning (such as it was) behind that decision was flawed.

Decades of poor/bad precedent doesn't make it right.

So the entire premise behind the argument that, somehow, the Wilderness Act must be considered as a valid law, is facetious. When enough of us make that plain to the Congress, it will be overturned. But until then, we get what we deserve.

Couching the argument in terms of battle is unsettling to many, but all too often it is what is required.

There's nothing in the constitution about adding territory to the United States either, Amigo. Even Jefferson admitted as much when he bought the midwest. I'm OK with it if you are. Comprende?

This is priceless!! Just had a popup telling me that <a class="postlink" href="http://www.sierraclub.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">www.sierraclub.org</a> wanted to know my location...and would I let my system tell them. The answer, of course, was an emphatic "no." That was the only option other than yes, so I had to take it.

Same message popped up on me yesterday. Since there wasn't an F-no or Eat sh!t option I clicked no and it went away, however if they show up at my doorstep I suggest they bring backups and pack a lunch cause it's going to be a long day for them.

What the heck are you guys talking about??? A pop up? On this site????
No way! I'm not that clever...did that really happen? ;)

Yes it really happened. Sorry I'm not tech savvy enough to explain properly and when I saw it I simply could not click no fast enough. If it happens again I'll take a screenshot for you.

Think maybe it may have something to do with this:

<a class="postlink-local" href="http://www.imtbtrails.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2034#p20376" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2034#p20376</a>

I got the same thing the day this was posted.....Not blaming Burt, but just coincidence?

Begging email just arrived from IMBA

Hi there,

How is your summer mountain biking going? Would you like more places to ride? IMBA wants to help with that, but we need you

As a member, you are an integral part of supporting a strong association staffed by professional advocates and trail designers. You also support expert resources that strengthen our nearly 200-strong grassroots network of IMBA chapters, all of which are advocating for great riding in U.S. cities big and small.

MTBing
But now we’re looking to do something specifically for trails. We call it the IMBA Trail Fund. It’s a little different from your membership, and only requires a few bucks more to support.

The Trail Fund is used by IMBA region directors to seed great trail projects, and we’re turning to our dedicated supporters—people like you—to be a part of a simple goal to raise money for trails.

Since 2008, IMBA chapters have been leveraging Trail Fund dollars nationwide to double, triple or even quadruple funding streams for bike parks, trail systems, advanced trail building education and important trail enhancements like signage and tools.

Will you help us? As a member, we value your contribution to mountain biking. It only takes an extra few dollars—whatever you wish to give—to help kickstart great trail projects nationwide.

Check out a short video or see a map of projects. Then, please give to the Trail Fund. (https://www.imba.com/trail-fund)

We greatly appreciate that you are a member; members are essential to making the U.S. more mountain bike-friendly. This is your opportunity to be an essential supporter of new trail projects, too.

Thank you!

The map makes "interesting" viewing...

I don't see a legend to explain the different colors and sizes of the bubbles...but I did notice a serious dearth of anything south of, say, Monterey. Except for that boil in San Diego.

You are correct, it was me. I knew it would raise the location request, and thought I would use it drive home the issue I brought up in the linked thread. What I didn't realize however, was that it would affect everyone visiting all other threads besides the website one in question. I would have reacted sooner, but I just now stumbled upon this discussion.

I apologize for the confusion, and have removed the offending content.
