Say Something, Dammmmit!

Why cant authorities just permanently impound and sell for profit offenders' vehicles? I think 10mph over the speed limit is too low a threshold and disproportionate. Make it 30 percent over the speed limit and zero tolerance, and eventually people will get the message or no longer have the means to speed.

BTW, that's a nice jacket, and Weiner has big hands...
In Hesperia they did something similar. They posted a sign of a dirt bike. “Ride here and get your bike confiscated.” It worked.

Looks like something that would be in your closet.

I mean the jacket, of course.
Too Jazzy?

I like both ideas. People drive way too fast. Once you have a kid driving, you might get it.
It's either some Rich POS in a sports car thinking he's an F1 guy, the 88' tercel that looks like it's falling to pieces, has no insurance, and even less to lose, oh, don't forget the guy who's driving 90 in the minivan his wife makes him drive-pissed at the world.

Grease works wonders.....adding water, not so much. Thanks for the business - $4800 repair.

Random post....power in my neighborhood is out and don't know when it'll come back on. Last night was out about 30 min, but now they are replacing a transformer or such out on the street so who knows, It's been about an hour. So using Blue tooth speaker to listen to music, phone hotspot to post here and having a gas stove and portable espresso maker so had a good shot too! But will it come back on in time for the F'ball game :cautious: ?

I saw that. I hope to hell that doesn't pass. Of all the things I can tolerate, that would not be one of them.

BTW - no need to go overtly political here. Even people in his party (whatever that may be ) think it's horrifying. But I have lost faith for people to have common sense and self regulation at either end of the political spectrum.

Yeah, the 10 over is a non-starter for me. I seldom speed, but when I do..... My take is it's just one more reason to own an ICE vehicle w/o too much tech and a grip o'power.

Sounds like you need to head to a sports bar, ASAP. First game is starting momentarily.

Right now the CHP, allows for 10% over the speed limit, so at 70 mph that is 7 mph which is the average on most freeways. But some people do need that limiter because they do well over 90’+ mph. Not saying I agree with this proposal. Regardless of political affiliation, it’s just a bad idea IMO.
After having the misfortune to live in a state (Victoria) and work a job that meant I got inside knowledge to the utter bullsh!t that goes on when you go down this slippery slope.... No thanks. This ends in an ugly feckin mess with everyone losing out.

I had to take a job as a speed camera verifications officer for awhile to make ends meet. Worst feckin job of my life. Victoria at the time was running similar to what you propose, 10% over get a fine. But what followed was interesting. Everyone learnt that fact and drove just below. Revenue dropped off and so the state decision was to lower the tolerances, all done in the name of safety - queue clutching of pearls and thinking of children. What's the result now? In Victoria you can get fined for doing less than 3mph over the speed limit on a feckin freeway! The only reason they can't really go any lower? Australian Design Rules (ADRs) say that a speedo only has to be accurate to that degree.

How bad is it?
Victoria, Australia - pop. 6.681 mil (2020) - traffic fine revenue (approx.) $404 million
California, 'Merica - pop, 39.24 mil (2021) - traffic fine revenue (approx.) $450 million

Its a cash cow for government and they will abuse it. All in the name of "safety".

Absolutely. In fact, a couple of the major red light camera operators and speed camera operators in the US have been found to work with cities to exactly what you've described. The cameras do tend to slightly reduce red light violations slightly, but when they fail to produce the revenue required by the operator and city, the solution - shorten the caution/yellow light period to snare more revenue all in the name of safety. Interestingly, the cameras in a couple of areas had no bearing on safety and could not be shown to yield a safety improvement. It turns out they were only revenue generators.

The tree that funds the California Public Employees' Retirement System needs support now more than ever.

CalPERS is doin' just fine me boy. Unless or until they go all ESG on their investments.

But I'm a member so I am vigilant.

As Paul Harvey once said (1965, look up 'If I were the Devil'), in part, ..."And the old, I would teach to pray, after me, 'Our Father, which art in Washington..."

I heard lots of people didn't pay the tkts. Not sure if it's true .
