Pioneertown 50- March 31, 2018

It’s an easy ride. The climb is mostly front loaded. A couple of spots are on the steeper side. If you bypass the Jeep Trail option on the way back, it is not a technical ride at all.

Worst part could be the sandy road near the beginning.....it’s like riding up Trabuco Creek Rd in 6-8” of beach sand.

And the headwind on the pavement on the way back sucks....a lot.

Any talk for 2019?
Never done it and have registered for this year. Got my trailer out of mothballs and will probably bring it up and camp Friday to Sunday

I absolutely love this ride, and have done it the last 4 years... But it falls on the same day as True Grit this year.

The ride itself isn't technical... until the Jeep section. With that said, though, this isn't easy fire road. Last year it was chunkier than most of the trails around here and there are a couple HAB sections on the single speed in the first 17 miles, which is basically all uphill. If you do the longer route, the views are incredible, and there's a lot more up and down between mile 17 and the turnaround at mile 25.

If you do the shorter route, it's still fun... And you'll hit the Jeep Trail shortly after turning around at the 17 mile checkpoint. Do not skip the Jeep Trail. It's pretty insane... Crazy rocky climb in the beginning, and then lots of very chunky descending. I've had it all to myself the last couple of years...

Can anyone give a rating or comparison of the Jeep trail to any of our local OC trails?

The end of the technical section... Big rocks. I've crashed here 2 out of 4 times. :D:p

@-ROCKY-

This is a great ride if you want to try something longer. The Rwanda Ride on the following weekend is also a great ride for someone who wants to try a "bigger" ride. Both are worthy causes... Pioneertown is an out and back, so you can go as far as you like and then turn around. The return trip will have some uphill, but it's mostly downhill back to town. Rocky fireroad... And if you make it to the 17 mile aid station, the extra chunky Jeep Trail is right there after you turn around.

I came here to update things, thanks to those who beat me to it. Yes, we are now scheduled for April 20. The 25 mile option is new this year. We noticed a number of people were turning around at the 1st aid station anyways, so we made it an official distance.

Unfortunately, we have removed the Jeep Trail from the official course. I personally preferred it, but there was such a small percentage of people taking that route and of those, about half didn't like it. I know there is a group who feel like it's the best part of the course, so there is a bit of disappointment from me about removing it.

Moderator.....could you create a new thread for this year's ride with these messages? Could you also add the ride to the calendar? Thank you.

Ha-Hem... Every time I've ridden out there with an IMTB crew, the hardtails were the only ones to complete the extra technical section. :whistling:
What’s the matter with those squishy Barney’s? Going through a buffet and eating the hamburger while ignoring the ribeye?
Whatever, @Mikie & I missed a turn like 3 years ago and @Faust29 has been giving us :poop: ever since:Roflmao. Then a couple weeks ago we did a bike path blacktop ride cause that's all the weather would allow and we've been getting a fresh dose of crap for that one too:facepalm::laugh::Roflmao.
