Only in California

Didjever hear what Neil had to say about that later???

He realized he was over the top. Most people don't realize what "Sweet Home Alabama" is about. They don't actually listen to the lyrics.

Yeah, I'm from the South(ish) my own self.
I’ll take that on...
Sweet Home Alabama, I believe is about two things. First it’s a retaliatory to Neil Young’s “Southern Man” and “Alabama” songs. Not in a spiteful way but in a pro Alabama way. Lynard Skynard and Neil Young are not enemies, far from it!
The second part of the song is about that jackwad George Wallace, the Governor then who was pro segregation, which is outlandish and racist.

A lot of folks think SHA is a racist song and I think the band made it clear with the boo boo boo, that they were opposite of that. Interviews with Van Zant prior to that fateful day he said they were anti George Wallace and what he stood for.

Neil Young has stated later referring to Southern Man and the push back of Sweet Home Alabama, he had it coming, he also has said he would rather play Sweet Home Alabama instead of Southern Man in concert. In fact, after the plane crash, Neil Young has never played his song “Alabama” live since.

Birmingham was a tragedy, a disgusting tragedy.

Watergate refers to troubles up North, everyone has troubles, so don’t t just point to the South was the reference.

That’s my take...

Well done, sir!

Ronnie and Neil

Church blew up in Birmingham
Four little black girls killed for no goddamn good reason
All this hate and violence can't come to no good end
A stain on the good name.
A whole lot of good people dragged threw the blood and glass
Blood stains on their good names and all of us take the blame

Meanwhile in North Alabama, Wilson Pickett comes to town
To record that sweet soul music, to get that Muscle Shoals sound
Meanwhile in North Alabama, Aretha Franklin comes to town
To record that sweet soul music, to get that Muscle Shoals sound

And out in California, a rock star from Canada writes a couple of great songs about the
Bad Sh!t that went down
"Southern Man" and "Alabama" certainly told some truth
But there were a lot of good folks down here and Neil Young wasn't around

Meanwhile in North Alabama, Lynyrd Skynyrd came to town
To record with Jimmy Johnson at Muscle Shoals Sound
And they met some real good people, not racist pieces of Sh!t
And they wrote a song about it and that song became a hit

Ronnie and Neil Ronnie and Neil
Rock stars today ain't half as real
Speaking there minds on how they feel
Let them guitars blast for Ronnie and Neil

Now Ronnie and Neil became good friends their feud was just in song
Skynyrd was a bunch of Neil Young fans and Neil he loved that song
So He wrote "Powderfinger" for Skynyrd to record
But Ronnie ended up singing "Sweet Home Alabama" to the lord
And Neil helped carry Ronnie in his casket to the ground
And to my way of thinking, us southern men need both of them around

Ronnie and Neil Ronnie and Neil
Rock stars today ain't half as real
Speaking their minds on how they feel
Let them guitars blast for Ronnie and Neil

I had no idea.
I was a Skynyrd fan, and to a lesser extent a Neil Young fan, but I had no idea they ended up as friends, and if it's true that Neil Young carried Ronnie's casket - wow.

Thanks for this. Skynyrd was anti racist, anti-violence and to some degree anti-gun, but they somehow became the poster band for the racist idiots who were too stupid to actually listen to or read the lyrics.

Same people that think Springsteen's "Born in the USA" is some kind of birthright anthem when it's a critical look at the government's treatment of Vietnam vets.
Keep cutting those education dollars and keep getting TV voters....
Not just the treatment of Vets, but the entire Vietnam conflict..."so they put a rifle in my hand, sent me off to a foreign land, to go and kill the yellow man..."
I face-palm every time some stupid-ass politician uses that song as a reference to being patriotic.

Did nobody listen to the song I posted above!?!?!?

Good thing this is in Truckee and not Berkeley. Nobody is wasting our tax $ on fixing the signage!

Without reading the spin this article give cash bail, I've read a bit on this.
cash bail in my opinion gives those more fortunate and wealthy an advantage to release on bail. Those poor and without assets do not have that advantage.
Now it's based on offense and likely hood of re offending. Much more equitable IMO.
