New to Mtn. Biking

I agree with mountain biking shape being different. I have been on several rides with new riders who were very fit and they had a hard time. Different muscles and being tight because they weren’t confident riding in the dirt.
When I first got into Mtn. Biking I remember going up Telegraph in Chino Hills. Half way to four corners. What's that 500 feet of climbing in 3 miles? I was dying and that was only half of Telegraph!

I've thrown out the offer and I hope to hear back from him but it has been a week now.
