McGill McGot Him Again… Mikie is Down...

Hey fellers,
Doped up and awake now.
Thank you for the well wishes! There may be a few mispelled words.
Was having an amazingly fun ride. Did not see it coming but had a huge pedal strike on a big rock that catapulted me off the trail and I hit a tree head on. I think the contact points was the back of my head and right shoulder blade. I must have fractured my pelvis when I hit the ground. I thought I broke my neck.

Laying there I did a quick what has feeling check and see everything worked. I thought I broke some upper ribs on the front and back but did not.

I was laying face up on the down side of the trail with my left foot locked in my pedal and excruciating pain in my right groin (the pelvic fracture). Could not move. Started getting scared.

Wiggled my cell phone out and had 3 bars. Called Cathy but she wad at Church. Called @Voodoo Tom as I know he grew up here and his Dad wad on search and rescue.

Tom made it happen as Tom ALWAYS makes it happen.

I began to panic, so I forced the bike to flip over as I screamed and cried and got unhooked from my pedal and worked my into a sitting position and just shivered and waited.
Search and Rescue guys found me first on Mountain Bikes. By this time it was pitch black.

Things get hazy here. A thousand blood pressure checks, shivers like I was in shock.
Tried to stand me but that was not going to happen based on the tight hip.

Called in the choppah! Pain IV and they loaded me in a basket. Dropped me at the Y.

Two pelvic fractures and some very bruised ribs. Was going to need surgery for internal bleeding but that id all clear now. I have to prove I can walk out of here to go home.
Keep you guys posted

I got the shivers just reading that.

Mikie- I'm truly thankful that you're still here to tell us the story... And I'm thankful that you and Voodoo Tom have forged the friendship that you have. It saved your life last night.

@Voodoo Tom can talk all the humility he wants cuzz he is a solid humble dude.

But @Faust29 is right, in my opinion, you did save my life Brothah. You were the only guy for the job. Right connections, know the area, level headed common sense. I would have been up there for hours more if not for you and your quick thinking. The shivers I was hitting by the time those guys got there were out of control. I was going in to shock.
Thank you Tom!

I got to throw a Pizza and Brew night for You and those guys.

I agree....pelvic injuries can be deadly if not tended to in a timely manner due to all the blood vessels that travel through that area......I'm no doctor, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn last night....plus I heard it on the interwebs, so it's gotta be true right. :cautious:

I realize we haven't met "yet" but I used to think you were superhuman. Now this is twice you have wodded it up since I've been an imtb'er. Now I'm thinking you're just a normal shmo like the rest of us. I still walk the death-chute though right at your avatar so you're still good there! you are the grand-Poobah of the Royal order of imtb so fkn slow down and heal up real good. The one good plus to all this is summed up in one word. Ice cream... Vibes

Glad to see you got out safe and fast. Best wishes for an equally fast recovery

I just got clearance Clarence from the Physical Therapist after completing his torture test.
About 2 hours of paperwork and I'm on my way home.
Heck yeah buddy, holler if you need anything and holler even if you don't need anything.
I'm thinking we hit up McGill Trail on Saturday and tame that beeotch!
Assuming this is the drugs talking? I've got your bike so I have control of the situation sorta.

Heal up quick @Mikie! And awesome friendship point to you @Voodoo Tom !

I love the comradery of the mtb community. And IMTBers are just superior examples of the status quo of mtb.

Healing vibes Mikie. You'll be back rubber side down in no time. I got the leary "if you think you can" from my orthopedic doc yesterday when I asked if I could ride. So Im only days out from being back on the trails. Saturday could work o_O
