This should do the trick....

I'm stunned, absolutely stunned I tell ya....Outside is shutting down Beta magazine (at least in print), the replacement to Bike. I guess they couldn't find enough people willing to pay ridiculous money for a MTB magazine. https://www.bicycleretailer.com/ind...-makes-staff-cuts-and-shuts-beta#.YpVm4i-B3UI
I had a colleague who abandoned the environmental planning business so she could write for Outside Magazine. She endeavored to work only when and on what she wanted, so her career shift made sense, or so I thought.

I think Outside magazine itself is still operating. Maybe she's one that still has a job...plus I think they are staying online.

Also mentioned in there is that Specialized buying up shops.
Don't remember if it's been mentioned here, but the big S bought up Rock n Road.
The former owners are now employees of Specialized in varying roles. Don't know if they will be rebranded or keep the name.

What's the concern? Bypassing Local Bike Shops?

The velocity at which they are dismantling the IBD and local shops and taking over.....then going with a Consumer Direct sales model.

Like Rumpled mentioned above.....RnR was bought up by Sp......that was 7 IBD's/LBS in OC that are now a corporate shop. Does it affect me? No, I don't shop there anyway. But my understanding is that that buyout did affect lots of local teams and clubs that were sponsored by that shop.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease?

This is happening in a lot of industries. The larger company, or in the case of my industry huge Investment Groups, are buying up smaller businesses that have a good customer base and shows a profit. More than one company I know of has been bought out in this manner and they are now under one umbrella with a name change possibly coming. And I know they are about to buy more independent small businesses in our area.
Even if the locations appear to be small businesses the reality they are part of a huge parent company. reduces choice and also reduces the number of people that are their own boss and independent.
Welcome to the modern world. Pretty soon everything we buy will be from a small handful of large corps. Big Brother is here. Just not like we forsaw it.

This! A friend has/had a successful business that just bought out. They tossed enough money at him until he said, sure let's do it!
Now he's an employee...I give him six months until he flips them the bird and decides to retire with the windfall or start another company when the non-compete runs out.
