I Rode My Bike Today...

Three ups and three downs in my local park this morning. Not very crowded - after all, it is Wednesday. Overcast for 2/3rds of the ride, then cool sunshine.

18 mi, 2350'

5 rides without a crash. 20% off normal pace for self preservation and recovery purposes. Bikes are fun.

Pretty nice gravel bike loop this morning with my neighbor. I'm off this week and am getting a good ride in every day. Today we rode from home. Floop railroad tracks and tracks at Brea to Chino hills out at the golf course to SART and some surface streets home. 46 miles 1900 ft. No kitties but saw a nice rattler. Funny, but I'd rather ride my gravel bike all over the place than repair automobiles. Hard to imagine. My neighbor Eric and I deep in The hills of Chino.

Well Strava jipped me 9 or so miles, but who gives a shite, right!?:cautious:
Great day on the bike, especially because I was able to reap the rewards of my trail work few days ago...no shredded arms, legs and face:D I found my missing clippers, but not my TLD glove, dammit.
I was the only one out there today, it was awesome :inlove:

Hit up Oaks today. Down Yucca, up Goat (the hard part...doh!) down upper section of Chutes trail (still chicken Sh!t to do the waterfall I used to hit on a gt marathon) down bottom of chutes ridge for some tech, up chutes trail, down cactus and up bumble bee. Only 5.6 miles but felt like 12.

Some young riders apparently haven’t been talked to about trail etiquette. I’m climbing chutes trail on some pretty exposed section and a group just bombs down passed me. For some reason, I’m horrible at un-clipping with my right foot and nearly step off the edge.

Some dude was coming down the rocky hiker trail that descends from the big ass boulder near the flag. Wearing a regular helmet, he ate it bad, busted his forehead open. Must of not been strapped properly. He was conscious but didn’t know what day it was. Paramedics and fire dept had to be called.

I don’t want to end up like him so I’m walking my ‘dentist’ Bike on sh!t like chutes ridge until I say when. I’m older, I want to ride for another day, I have nothing to prove. I’m having fun again.

11 weeks with no alcohol today. Some might say sober. I’m loving the sport again and all the energy and endorphins this is giving me. Alcohol is a bitch, it grabs you!

good times!

That's friggin' awesome - well except for the dude's crash and the rude boys. But great about the 11 weeks, your love of the sport and your stoke!

Awesome, congrats! Tuesday was 13 years for me. Can't imagine (and don't want to) how different the last 13 years could have been. Love the infectious stoke for riding as well. Welcome back the fun zone.

Welcome to the new world. Newer riders think every trail is for them and them only....."inside" people don't know how to act outside.

And relax on Chutes Ridgeline....your bike will handle it all without flinching.

Wow! Congrats on 13 years!

So far, it hasn’t been that difficult. Yes I salivate over a craft beer if I see someone drinking it, but other than that, I don’t think about it. I love waking up without the sluggishness I used to battle with quite often. Most importantly, I’m mentally present for my kids.

Praise the Lord!

I’ve done it before on less capable bikes. I was younger with no kids. I’ve cleared it many times before. Years ago.

My last attempt was about 6 years ago. I didn’t have enough speed, hit a boulder I couldn’t roll and stalled and went otb and over the side while still clipped in. I guess I’m spooked.

It sounds like you've reset your priorities for the better. Good luck continuing on that path!

Today: Tahoe Meadows TH/TRT to Marlette Lake and back on Flume. I genuinely forgot it was a no-ride (odd) day and made it one mile from the finish before someone reminded me. Not many users on the TRT to piss off at least.

Some of you have ridden at least some of it. Incredible settings, super fun-riding trails – world-class, must-do riding. Mostly buff ST with lots of embedded rocks on TRT, fun surface up and down. Fewer rocks and flatter on Flume. A bit warm in some spots but pleasant overall. 6 hours car to car.

The steep grind up Old Mount Rose Highway to close the loop was even spectacular

Loving those photos Mike! :inlove:
I’ve not biked those trails, but I have done some trail running there...just stunning to say the least!

Soooo, I rode my bike and my daughter (who’s been wanting to get into mtn biking), rode my other bike..the new one :whistling:
She loved it and killed the descents, I was floored! I’d ride a steep section, stop, get off my bike and help her through it...she’s a natural I tell ya!
Wish I’d had someone helping me out, way back in the day :coffee::laugh:

Somebody got a new bike!!

Dog pile on Sara!!!! :eek::Roflmao

Ayup, new bike for mama:sneaky: Daughter got the first ride since it still has flat pedals, and I want her to get hooked...she’s already looking online for a used bike!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
I picked up the Ripley yesterday, it’s XT build with the upgraded fork and carbon rims. I got a good deal and it was only demoed at the Sedona mtb fest. I still need to get her dialed in:cool:

Now that is love. I don't think I could do it. Regardless, congrats! That sounds like a mega-rad build that should take good care of you for a long time. Enjoy!
