I Rode My Bike Today...

I'm waiting...:whistling:

I looked for a "poking the bear" GIF, but this seems more appropriate...

Rode Hermosa Creek up a North of Durango. This might me Durango’s original ride that put it on the map. 3rd time for me, last time being 2015. I mostly tried to keep youngster Darren and @pdqmach26 in sight. This is a stunningly beautiful backcountry ride 100% of the ride, probably 90% singletrack but moto legal.

Ha hah! Finally got to watch this!
1) Gotta hill^billy my camera on to the head tub. That just plain works!
2) "WTF Dude!" Classic following @Tom the Bomb over the abyss. Great vid of the knife edge rock drop. Never have done it, now inspired to do it next time.

Way to go lads!
Haul that mail!

It becomes just about a science to mount the camera to the head tube, although I have seen Scottay use duct tape?
I have to say that little stunt almost, or could have ended badly!
@Tom the Bomb started his line sooner and at a better angle than I did. Also he was more balanced and more direct with no wavering! My front wheel is all over the place!
May have to do with me having to track stand a little?
My tire heading straight for bad! Tom’s in black ink. Next time I will start my line sooner and ride across to the other side of trail toward the mountain and then make a right.
Not looking good!

Who put those rocks on top of the spine? Looks like some rocks have been moved in the abyss too. Somebody has been doing some "work" up there. Be careful.

That drop in from Christian Camp goes from 0 to fun real quick.
Straight off the pity pot @rossage?
Yes those rocks were quite a surprise, upping the sketch another notch! We were eyeballing another stunt like ridding the rock straight out to the end to meet the trail, I would do it if i gets built up better for some better transitions.

The line I use is visible in your second pic.
If you would have straightened out your wheel and aimed for where @Tom the Bomb is, the run-out off the spine is smooth and carries up the other wall and then right onto the main trail.
I think your line is asking to get stuffed in that crack!

You never know, I may just want to stuff the crack? Actually though I don’t think it’s a crack where the dirt is just beyond the last rock, it’s pretty flat.

Twenty-years-ago me managed to ride that whole rock garden, with extras, on a Klein ht. Last week I sissied out on more than a couple of those, despite the far more capable gear.

I can't find the original for the next image, but it's 'digital art' from a shot of an old MyBikeSite scion, riding that same rock:

Cool!

I've ridden a few times this week.

Let's just say it's been a Blackstar week.

I took Tuesday off....because I was tired....yes, it happens.

Weds. I headed to Blackstar with grand ambitions....well, it was clear early on I was still tired. The legs fought me all the way up. Did stop at the top of Booby Trap to loan my pump to a stranded rider. Thought about turning back at Beeks, but decided to push on to 10 Mile Turn on Skyline, which led into going down to 11.5 mile turn. Didn't hurt as bad climbing back up. Thought for a minute about heading out towards Sierra Peak, but since I didn't go to the bottom of Skyline, I wasn't able to refill my 1 bottle. It was warm and I didn't have enough fluids left. So just back down.

So 22.6 / 3200'

Then last night was TNBS....but I had to make up for not riding on Tuesday....the numbers don't go up when you don't ride. My plan was to head out early and get an out and back to Beeks before meeting up with the others for the Social Loop. We had a 5:00 roll time from the Tree Farm. So I rolled just before 3:00.....plenty of time to cruise up and get back down. Bottom of the canyon was toasty in it's normal spots. Once past the Falls, it quiets down. Wasn't setting any blistering pace, but still turned a 1:06 gate to gate. Looked at the time and thought I had enough time for some extra extra credit, so I continued out to 10 Mile Turn on Skyline again. Ran into the rider I bailed out with the pump the day before. The little OAB took a bit longer than I anticipated. I felt I was pushing the pace back down. Passed @Cornholio just above the Falls. Made it back to the Tree Farm with about 8 mins to burn. Fresh bottles and we were off for TNBS.

The legs felt better at the bottom of the 2nd loop. I'm usually hitting all this with cold legs. Today they were warmed up. That lasted about 1/2 way up. Then they started to fade. Stopped and chatted with @Cornholio as we dropped into Hidden Ranch, he on his return trip. The last 15 mins to the top were pretty tough. Not a scorching pace on the way back down. But a fun afternoon on the bike.

37.5 / 4900'

My bride requested a ride for her birthday today. What kind of husband would I be to deny her of that. We did Sycamore Canyon from the beach. I’ve only ridden there one time before, and we did Guadalasca which was new dirt for me. Awesome quality time, and though the climb up Guadalasca was a challenge for her, she continues to impress. 17, 1877.
