I Rode My Bike Today...

While you guys were all arguing about chain lube, I met @rossage at 7:00 and did a Brown Mountain to el Prieto loop. Great little ride that happens to be super close now...

Going into el Prieto there were still 3 spots that I had trouble with. Two switchbacks and a little rocky climb at the end. I knocked the climb off the list by following Ross. That leaves two switchbacks to go! :p

19 miles and 2200 feet... Home by 9:20.

Aaahhh, grasshopper, soon you will learn all my lines, and your momentum will match the flow, and flow you will, like the stream called El Prieto

And then you'll eat Sh!t in a loose corner and scream F@ck!

I almost did a 6:00 Dawn Patrol ride through there this morning but I couldn't get my lazy ass out of bed.

Steve, you got that go around wired (the tree trunk on your right where you have to lean your bars out to the left to clean it) in the blind turn near the end that leads into a drop?

I usually just skip to the crashing part. Saves time and energy. :p

The 800 bars don't help, but that one isn't bad... I'm still not cleaning one right hand switchback up higher, and then the little rocky left hander. I came closer on the single speed, which is a lot easier to maneuver in there.

That's such a good ride to have in your back yard.

Ha, perfect.

Did a sweet solo Pinos run today, man I like that DH!
I need to shake things up and make this a weekly ride again, hopefully acclimate quickly as that altitude kicks my arse!

I pushed my bike yesterday...
Went and rode (pushed) my bike on the age old 5 Deer Trail out in Bouquet Canyon.
It's a trail I used to train on back in the 90's for cross country racing.

@mountaingirl sara , @JoeMac , and @SS Barby have been working on it with other mountain bikers local to the area.

It needs some serious loving, both in dirt work and massive foliage removal.
For our Tuesday ride John threw out there the option of P12 or explore 5 Deer, after work. Having NOT learned my lesson from the last time I rode it, I thought, "Hey let's go out and check out what needs to be done!"

:gotnothing:

Stupid, stupid, stupid me!
We cruised up the 5 mile fire road climb to the ridge and traversed over to the upper trailhead and then plunged (walked, scrambled, pushed, shoved) through the low hanging brush and branches along and sometimes in the general direction of the trail. Wishing I had purchased those kevlar sleeves we discussed in another thread, my arms were once again ripped to shreds. Death by a million cuts... and then seeking t0o late a blood bank... will be my death. :coffee:

At one point, I was half coasting, half riding a thick section and went down to my right side. At a crawl with no speed to speak of, I think I hyper-extended my right knee, which is now sporting a knee brace. I said several sailor words at that point. When we reached the section towards the bottom the trail blazers were rebuilding, I was tore up from the floor up. Jersey ripped, long scratch on my left cheek, both arms a bloody mess.
There is tons of poison oak in them thar hills, so when I got home, I took a very long and thorough shower.

Do NOT go ride 5 Deer trail. Once it is done it will be awesome. It was a favorite for years, but not right now.

When John and I finish a ride we usually fist bump and say, "Great Ride!" :whistling:

Which one of you won the award for the most ticks?

I’d like to know if you get a poison oak reaction in the next few days...I have a freaking good one right now on my belly of all places :(
If your immune I’m gonna be pretty jealous
@SS Barby any PO rash from Sat??

Rides last few days near the regional park have been the worst for oblivious dimwits that I have ever seen around here. I usually try to be friendly and courteous to everyone regardless of their trip but I am starting to get irked. Maybe head a different direction for a while and look for thinner pastures.

Sara we are done with the poison oak. Past the point that we worked on Sat. there is no more poison oak. But, the trail really does get rough with foliage and has a lot of work before it gets rideable. The unfortunate part other than @Mikie becoming hamburger meat is that I dont think the trail will be rideable before our real summer. It will be hot soon and there is some serious hours that are going to be needed. But, I will go out when I have free time at least a couple hours every weekend and do what I can. It true will be fun again just going to take some time. I want it back sooo bad!

No poison oak just a irritated scratch on my face but it doesn't seem to be a poison oak rash

Shoot, was hoping to ride it this season! I’ll be in AZ this weekend, but next one I should be free.
I hiked that side of SOT a few days ago to see how I could get a good ride up there...that top FR ridge line looks pretty sweet!

I've been doing trailwork in the evenings. Trying to finish off certain sections has stretched into darkness a few times, with a bonus that it is cooler. The downside is you can see all the dust in the air that you're breathing in.

Thanks for the trailwork up there, everyone! I did an exploration up there year before last. Rode up to the top from the Acton side to Sierra Pelona motorway, along the ridge top and and back down a different way. A bit of singletrack up top I tried wasn't in very good shape.

I like to think that that dirt is god for the immune system :D
You may have ridden the ridge that I was hiking/exploring. Not too shabby moto singletrack:thumbsup:

The ridge does have a singletrack that is from motos. @Mikie and I rode it a couple weeks ago and it was fun. Yesterday it was overrun with mustard seed so we stayed on the road. But, the mustard seed should die soon.
