I Rode My Bike Today...

I watched a rider go down pretty hard coming down The Wall today at Cheseboro. The moment he dropped in from the top, I was thinking to myself "too much brakes, too much brakes, let the bike roll".

Sure enough, he was going so slow down the steepness that the front tire washed out which tossed him with force down to the bottom. He was on the final section when he went flying. He landed on his shoulder, full side force. Took him several seconds to get up and he was holding his arm in a way that suggested that he may have killed his collar bonce. I ran down and brought his bike up for him. He sat down for a spell with his friends. They were heading down, I was heading up.

Another Black Canyon Trail day for me. Love this ride.

Sounds like an adventure.

Thanks for joining us this morning.
Our pleasure.

Go Vince sign still up..
Then. Chino hills..
Then a place out near murrieta...
3 days... Yahoo!
Can't believe signs are still up. It's been over two months since the Floop 100. People must be saying," Who the heck is Vince?" I took a sign for a souvenir about a month ago.

Once I'm back up to speed I'm looking forward to going back to The Wall to clean up my last mess, and then maybe leaving it alone for a while.

5th day in a row I have ridden my bike. Yay.
Did a cruiser with @Voodoo Tom in Castaic off of Templin Highway up to Whitaker Peak. It’s named after some famous explorer named Mark Whitaker. He disappeared several years ago. Some say he is hiding out in Southern California. Apparently one of his odd fascinations was an extensive collection of scissors. Huh.

@Runs with Scissors

@Mikie , I'm gonna make time to go up there and you & @Voodoo Tom will need to show me the way. I'll even give y'all more than an hour's notice...;)

Whiting-Luge-Whiting loop today with @Danimal and occasional friend Gene. Perfect weather. Perfect dirt. I felt strong climbing. Gene doesn't ride much anymore but he does a lot of Crossfit. He is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon. He did remarkably well climbing. The Luge was primo, and there was a photog perched behind the first right hand berm at the bottom of the run. I wonder how we see our hero pics?

Always fun riding with @Danimal. Never a negative word from the lad. He was trying out his new UBER Tires - Bontrager XR4s 29 x 2.4 rear and a massive 2.6 front. They looked awesome and he liked the traction. I'll let him report here or in the other thread.

Lunch at Wahoos after is a nice treat since there's no driving involved. Just change clothes and eat.

15.6, 2400' Lots of smiles - Bikes are fun!  :)

Oh - forgot to mention. We rode with Elvis today! He rides a 2020 Nomad.

Which bike?

Yesterday was another one of those days where I was having trouble motivating myself. Thankfully my buddy Tony texted me around 7 saying he was heading out and asked if I wanted to join him for a cruise around Rocky Peak. Sure?
He sent me the route and I was like :eek:o_O? It was all good. He got me out of the house and I did my first 5k of the year.

So sad. Nobody should only have one bike. I am deeply sad for you.
I LOVE having one bike. No hemming and hawing over which bike to take, no need to upgrade two bikes or do maintenance on two bikes. No need to select trails to meet your bike choice (or vice versa), no need to store and protect two (or more) bikes without a garage. When I did have two mt. bikes, one was a DH bike, so that was also an easy decision.

I do have another bike, but it's a beach cruiser, so it doesn't count.

I will have two mt. bikes shortly, but my intention is for that to be a temporary condition (maybe one month) before I sell one or the other.

You tall guys can start queuing up for my Tracer or a brand new "mystery" 29er!

Nah. What I suggest is a hardtail. The proper hardtail will roll down the stuff you like but it will add more of a challenge to the gnar that you hold dear. Trying to replace your Intense is obviously not the way to go. You cant compare a hardtail to your Intense. Its a different animal, completely. It would open a new chapter in your cycling world.

Since you don't have it yet can we help pick a name for your soon to be Hightower?

Why why why why why are you and others dead set on "improving" me? I rode hardtails exclusively from 1989 until 2002. I raced hardtails (really poorly - in beginner class). Remember Juliana Furtado, Ned Overend, John Tomac, Greg Herbold, Dave Weins? Yeah - that era. That's enough of the hardtails for me. I don't enjoy them. I recognize that the new ones are more rad with better angles and such, but no thank you. I would stop riding entirely if I were relegated to a hardtail again. I don't need a new (old) chapter in my cycling world, other than being a little more fit (which is happening). Thank you for caring.

It's you who are trying to improve yourself by riding new bikes that fit into the same class as the bike that you already consider perfection.

I am merely suggesting that you open your mind and broaden your horizons.

That is condescending as hell... but thanks Yogi Snake!

I'm not trying to improve myself by buying a bike, I am merely attempting to replace my 4 yr old bike with a 29er equivalent with updated geometry and components.

Yeah, good question. Anyone know who was taking photos of riders on the Luge today?

Great riding with Herz and Gene today, I was slow on the ups, but quick on the downs. Fun times!!

I know your pain. I got lucky finding that Hightower AND liking it out of the gate. I just need to make sure I dont ride the Nomad after I prep it for sale.
