Beautiful. It appears very Colorado-ish.I rode my bike today - in another state - and it was fun. Evidence below.View attachment 58306View attachment 58307
Do you also participate on skiing, snowboarding, and surfing forums?I like too many sports. Last winter - skiing and snowboarding. This summer - surfing.
Those of you who follow my every move know that I haven't been riding much. 4 times in July, 3 times in August and once in September until today. Only one of those past twelve rides broke the illustrious 2000' of climbing barrier. Average ride was 1400'. Two of the rides resulted in utter exhaustion.
Today's gloomy weather gave me the perfect excuse to ignore the surfboard and re-acquaint myself with my bike. I did my usual 5-Oaks, Cholla start, but then I figured I would go up Mathis to hit Rock-It - for a little extra climbing. So I hit Lynx first, then Coyote over to Mathis. Once at the top of Mathis I noticed the weather was perfect, my legs and energy felt pretty good, so let's go all the way up to ToW and over to Meadows. If I am feeling strong on the return voyage, I can always head back up Cholla for a run down something.
Long story short - my inexperienced legs were feeling the tug of gravity's insidious and relentless pull as I got to the bottom of Cholla. Better head back to the car. But, as I exited the park, I heard all the IMTB Hooligan(l) voices in my head - and they were calling me names. So I turned left and headed up through the neighborhood (cheater Cholla) for one more run . Legs were on the verge of cramping, but I kept hearing those voices. I made it to the top of Rock-It and had a fun run down - as always. But the climb back to the car was brutal for me. Legs cramped. Back spasm in full force. What a wuss!
19 miles 2800' (stop laughing)
Bikes are still fun, even when they dish out pain.
Nice work! I can relate to being pulled in multiple directions. As much as I love mtb, and despite the fact that even in a short amount of time it has arguably enriched my life more than snowboarding through enjoyment, ease of engagement, fitness, community, etc., I’ve not found anything that provides the in the moment bliss that being on my snowboard does. Missing the first half of last season after shoulder surgery made it easier to not fully engage once I was able to ride again in favor of staying more focused on mtb. I’ve been managing to ride my bike at least twice a week for the last few months, and I don’t want to lose that, but I’m jonesing for my snowboard so badly right now. If it’s a good snow year I imagine the pull is going to be strong.I like too many sports. Last winter - skiing and snowboarding. This summer - surfing.

Did you guys start the ride from the Corona side of the range?Eagle and Motorway in one ride... I've only done that once before, and there was a lot more HAB last time. I'll call that a win for today. The Professor was recovering from the bug that made us cut the San Juan ride short earlier in the week. He never gave in, and pedaled that 6" Yeti all over the mountain and back. He's going to be hard to keep up with when he gets back on an XC bike... Full on Rule 5 mode!
Cool and misty for most of the day... Main Divide Soup blowing in spots. I'll say that the new saddle from @buggravy is thoroughly broken in.
Fun day...

Did you guys start the ride from the Corona side of the range?
WW50 prep? No, we started in Silverado, up Maple Springs, down Eagle, up Skyline, back across Main Divide to Motorway
Thanks, they’re my favorite too. Their bored expression always cracks me up!Great H-Toad pic one of my favorite little creatures.

WW50 prep?
Then you drop down into civilization and climb back out during the ride? No, we started in Silverado, up Maple Springs, down Eagle, up Skyline, back across Main Divide to Motorway
Lol, it looks like you’ll survive it intact! You may have to drag me across the finish lineMore like gauging the fitness level... The results were not overwhelmingly positive.
WW50 prep?

Don’t worry J, we’ll get you through the WW50Hellacious Ride prep.
j/K.
some of it was to see how WW50 was gonna feel...some of it was just for fun. Actually most of it was just for fun. Love me big ride Saturday’s.

One of my favorite views of MD. However when I rolled through today it was completely covered in gloom.
I've seen you roll that in person #crazy!Planned a ride with Redwoods and Inji for this morning. Woke up to wetness and drizzles. It seemed to let up a bit after about 30 minutes. Inji bailed due to tired non motivated kids. Redwoods was jonesen as was i . We were to hit a Marshall drop in from the east side, hit the jump lines , climb out and hit Webb Cyn, The last time I rode Webb was about 6 months ago and it was quite overgrown. Well not today. It was good! Some work had been done and you could see all the drops and jumps clearly. Now just gotta get back up and brush Itchy Scratchy. A couple pics rolling the waterfall after Redwoods.
Pat rocked today!
