I Rode My Bike Today...

I rode my bike today - in another state - and it was fun. Evidence below.

I like too many sports. Last winter - skiing and snowboarding. This summer - surfing.

Those of you who follow my every move know that I haven't been riding much. 4 times in July, 3 times in August and once in September until today. Only one of those past 8 rides broke the illustrious 2000' of climbing barrier. Average ride was 1400'. Two of the rides resulted in utter exhaustion.

Today's gloomy weather gave me the perfect excuse to ignore the surfboard and re-acquaint myself with my bike. I did my usual 5-Oaks, Cholla start, but then I figured I would go up Mathis to hit Rock-It - for a little extra climbing. So I hit Lynx first, then Coyote over to Mathis. Once at the top of Mathis I noticed the weather was perfect, my legs and energy felt pretty good, so let's go all the way up to ToW and over to Meadows. If I am feeling strong on the return voyage, I can always head back up Cholla for a run down something.

Long story short - my inexperienced legs were feeling the tug of gravity's insidious and relentless pull as I got to the bottom of Cholla. Better head back to the car. But, as I exited the park, I heard all the IMTB Hooligan(l) voices in my head - and they were calling me names. So I turned left and headed up through the neighborhood (cheater Cholla) for one more run . Legs were on the verge of cramping, but I kept hearing those voices. I made it to the top of Rock-It and had a fun run down - as always. But the climb back to the car was brutal for me. Legs cramped. Back spasm in full force. What a wuss!

19 miles 2800' (stop laughing)

Bikes are still fun, even when they dish out pain.

Nice work! I can relate to being pulled in multiple directions. As much as I love mtb, and despite the fact that even in a short amount of time it has arguably enriched my life more than snowboarding through enjoyment, ease of engagement, fitness, community, etc., I’ve not found anything that provides the in the moment bliss that being on my snowboard does. Missing the first half of last season after shoulder surgery made it easier to not fully engage once I was able to ride again in favor of staying more focused on mtb. I’ve been managing to ride my bike at least twice a week for the last few months, and I don’t want to lose that, but I’m jonesing for my snowboard so badly right now. If it’s a good snow year I imagine the pull is going to be strong.

 Your self defecation is hilarious! The voices are real.

Eagle and Motorway in one ride... I've only done that once before, and there was a lot more HAB last time. I'll call that a win for today. :D The Professor was recovering from the bug that made us cut the San Juan ride short earlier in the week. He never gave in, and pedaled that 6" Yeti all over the mountain and back. He's going to be hard to keep up with when he gets back on an XC bike... Full on Rule 5 mode!

Cool and misty for most of the day... Main Divide Soup blowing in spots. I'll say that the new saddle from @buggravy is thoroughly broken in. :p

Fun day...

That's one of those rides where I say man I'd love to do that.

Then I wake up.

It's been about a couple of months since I rode sycamore canyon.Since LL poolj and sidewalk don't post that much anymore ,they used to ride sycamore pretty regularly, I was surprised to see a couple of scorched areas where fire had been in the last mo nth. It wasn't a huge area maybe several acres.
Weather was perfect and so was the dirt.

Planned a ride with Redwoods and Inji for this morning. Woke up to wetness and drizzles. It seemed to let up a bit after about 30 minutes. Inji bailed due to tired non motivated kids. Redwoods was jonesen as was i . We were to hit a Marshall drop in from the east side, hit the jump lines , climb out and hit Webb Cyn, The last time I rode Webb was about 6 months ago and it was quite overgrown. Well not today. It was good! Some work had been done and you could see all the drops and jumps clearly. Now just gotta get back up and brush Itchy Scratchy:rolleyes:. A couple pics rolling the waterfall after Redwoods.
Pat rocked today!

The Professor said early this week he wanted to do Maple Springs/Eagle/Skyline. Awesome ! However I added in the traverse back across Main Divide to the Motorway. Well, neither of the boys said Hell No....so we were in.

Well Josh was recovering from being sick this week, but didn't bail. 6:00 roll time in the mist and drizzle....and humidity. We pretty much would run his pace all day.

Fun run down Eagle.

Stopped at the water fountain at the bottom of Skyline.....interesting sights.

Josh started to fade on the way up Skyline.

Beeks to Hagador was rough on me, but only walked the same section I normally do. Temps cooled down quite a bit.

Finally reached Motorway and just rolled through. We sent Josh down first as he was fried. However, he got into a groove and took off.

I felt good all day....the slower pace helped.

Perfect day to be on the mountain.
