I Rode My Bike Today...

We rode Saturday on the SART. Passed on Wild Horse due to snow and added climbing for buddy Grant. Dropped at South Fork by Crazy Bear shuttle. Beautiful morning taking our time down to Post Office. Trail is in great condition due to some hard work by Xavier to make his shuttles worth while. Continued to drop “down” 2E03 to bottom of 38. No Morton Peak this time. No mechanicals, two tip overs, one OTB, but no harm done.

Thanks for the trail conditions report! I almost went their yesterday, but it was cool enough to stay local.
That last photo looks like where the log bridge crossing used to be, did it get washed out?

First ride from the new house this morning, I think it was my first ride in a month (moving sux).

A bit more of a commute to the trails but it’s a nice very gradual climb for a warm up then an easy cruise on the way back home.

All water crossings are completely passable without getting wet. There are a couple wooden brides that look new and are in different places than before our record rains.

Water Works x 2... Chiquita Ridge and Tijeras Creek to get there...

There has been a new message on Chiquita Ridge every time I've been there in the last couple months...

Someone did a little work on the Tijeras Creek Trail... Some tread work and a little brushing.

16 miles and 1800 feet...

And this ride will definitely prove or disprove our immunity to poodle dog. It was everywhere, like a forest in places on Red Reef, no way to avoid it. Took a good long cold shower with lots of dawn dish soap just in case, thinking about burning all my clothes...:Roflmao
No poodledog plant rash so maybe I am immune.
Takes at least a few days before the rash starts to appear. Are you itchy anywhere that it made contact?
Uh... Tailwinds...? Duh..

Up Maple to Four Corners. Nobody else on the tail until the very end. Passed a guy climbing with no water and no shirt on. He said he was good so I carried on. Lady bugs are out in full force right now. Was covered in them when I got back down to the truck. Probably a good 100 all over me and the bike. Really pretty day on the mountain with perfect weather.

Did the other end of last week's ride, San Juan trail from Blue Jay to Cocktail Rock, then hit Viejo Tie on the return. Summer has arrived, it was hot up there (Garmin said 95 for a bit but it tends to overstate in direct sun). I remember why I don't do this route too often, the climb from the bottom of Viejo Tie to Blue Jay is a soul crusher at the end of the ride in the mid day heat. Still an awesome all-singletrack ride with plenty of techy bits up and down to keep it interesting.

The climb out from the creek heading to Cocktail Rock. I don't often climb this direction, takes a lot of energy up and over the many outcrops and navigating the ruts. Fun coming back down though.

A couple of large trees across the trail. I did hear a chainsaw running, maybe lower down Chiquito. Maybe the Hot Shots are working their way up.

Fairly large branch completely blocked the trail, was at the bottom of Viejo Tie near Chiquito. Probably very recent as no go-arounds or throughs were apparent.

better, easier to push it off than trying to go over or around

Had not been up Chiquito to SJT in a few years. Some of it is really overgrown and plenty of PO. Someone did some tread work on a couple of washed out areas which is much appreciated. Sign has seen better days, but good to know it's just 8.2 miles to the Candy Store.

Thursday night Black Star Social... @mtnbikej , @horsebikerider , @guywhodoesntdoforums, @The Professor, and @The Mini Professor

A little warm at the start, but then it cooled off nicely... Some of the gang went for a little extra credit over to Skyline. Along the way, the Professor got to see some of the other ruins off the beaten path. Fun little extra credit jaunt... And there was even time for a safety break at the top of the single track climb. I learned quite a bit about the latest in pipe technology.

We skipped Booby Trap on the way down due to the overgrowth. Apparently, Mini Professor didn't see us skip it, and he headed down alone. He didn't crash...

I had the plus tires on the Hightower for a little extra fun... skinny 2.8 on the back, and the jumbo 3.0 up front. Fun tires to play around on. :D

20 miles and 2800 feet...

Up Cheeseboro to Palo Saddle-Buzzards rest and back, place was empty. 2 riders passed me on the way out, because I was looking for flowers, and I am slow in my old age. Parking at the entrance was empty. Passed way too many on the way back, parking was full upon my return. Golden Stars everywhere, quite a few Matilja Poppys, Saw one snapdragon like plant I cannot identify, one Woolly Blue Curls (it was on a small slope that did not burn). two large groups of Slender Mariposa Lilies, few Plummer's Lilies, lots and lots of Turkish Ruggings. A slender long spike, bluish white that I could not identify, it was everywhere and stood up to 4 feet tall, quite a few Scarlet Larkspur, one Perry's Larkspur, few Calif Golden Poppies
Happy after the burn trails

Botany is awesome!

most people just see 12 foot mustard crowding the trail but there are a lot of other things blooming. I saw others too and was going to stop on my way out. I was going way to fast to see them. The Matilija Poppies were cool, at first way off the trail, big white flowers, I saw them and said naw. Later up the canyon they became closer. I love the yellow lilies, they are pretty rare, and there were two groves of over 100 each
Happy Cheeseboro trails
