Exploration Yesterday with T-2 . We climbed it then bombed it. I crashed it in the middle. Clipped a cut off root at speed and landed on my rt forearm that was padded and protected my core. Bruised ribs, both thighs and shoulder. It could have been much worse. Finished the ride no problem. If you are gonna do trail maintenance cut the whole root out! The base of the threaded part of my x1 shifter got stripped as the crash pulled the bolt out. Tom helped me zip tie it to the brake and we were good to go. Fyi when I got home I notices a little allen screw next to the striped out mounting hole on the shifter body. I was another mounting hole for the bar clamp. Yeah fixed! No need to buy a new one. Explo is quite a bit trickier. Rain has exposed more rock and roots. Good stuff though . Good thing for pads.
Here is the tally from Thursday's Maple Springs Free-For-All Ride: I pulled into the visitors center parking lot late in the day. As I was setting up to set out, @horsebikerider and another young lady ? zipped by. Apparently they had smoked the boys on the downhill. @mtnbikej @Faust29 and @TheProfessor arrived a few minutes latter. They graciously stopped for a little bit of conversation. That was a good thing because @TheProfessor pointed out the fact that my front thru axle was loose. They had gone as far as the second guardrail ( 5.5 miles ) . " Cold and windy." At around the 2 mile point I encountered @Jeremy. He had gone as far as " the last big turn before 4 Corners " where " the wind was really howling" ( 7 miles ) I went up to the first guardrail ( 3.5 miles ) it was dark. the wind was cold and it was starting to rain. My intent was just to get in a little bit of pedaling with some healthy elevation gain for the sake of well-being. It's all good
Yep... As @Old&InTheWay says, it was a chilly night on Maple Springs. Although it didn't rain, it sure felt like it was going to... And the temps dropped into the low 40s, even at the 5.5 mile mark. Misty, damp, and windy, but still a fun social ride.
I broke out the Showers Pass gloves on the way down to keep the fingers from freezing... I thought I was done with those for the year!
11 miles and 2100 feet...
Nice, thanks for that. Will use it this week. Heading out now for a play date with @SnakeCharmerCheeseboro recon for Mr. @buggravy. A lot of the mustard is dying off. There were a few narrow sections but not enough to get slapped in the face. Several people camped out on the middle of the trail and/or fire roads. Must be a new thing.

I'll say it again...if you wanted a normal winter and spring, we had one. Stop it already.
No complaining... And I didn’t see you up there much this winter in the snow, ice and 20 degree temps.
Hurts so good!Cuc among a climb to RC LOOP. 13.9% cuz I needed it!
Found the sign in the bushes. It’s about a mile from the fire break...

26 miles and 4600 feet.
Not to derail, but @tbarnesarc, how do you like that saddle?
I've had the new Ergon for a few weeks now. So far so good. It's a great saddle but I want to new ergon saddle with the fart hole. It's supposedly even more comfy. Gonna have to harass Schley about grabbing one from him next time I see him.
Nice! Wish I coulda joined u guysAnnddd. Back on topic. As @herzalot stated above we had a great ride. I was feeling pretty darn good on the ye ole shred sled today. For some reason I was ahead of Herz on two of the climbs and I don't think he liked that too much. Also, that has never happened before granted he's been skiing and boarding while I've been riding quite a bit. The mishap he referenced was me laying the bike down in the rock garden on rockit. It was dumb and embarrassing which yielded a bent derailleur hanger. Luckily when I bought the Bronson V3 frame it came with an extra which I had in my pack. 20mins later we were off again and all was well in the world. Had a fun run down Stairs but still pussed on the waterfall. Not ready for it right meow but will happen soon. Herz also dropped me. Then TnA. Herz dropped me again. BUT I almost reeled him in on fast chundery section before the big roller/huck zone. Anyways it was a really fun day and a long overdue ride with gramps. Videos are below for those interested because we totally shredded the gnar bruh. I'll see myself out.
My wife and child were out of town this weekend, so I bro'd out with @tbarnesarc. First, stopped by on my way home from work Friday to catch up on life over a couple of coldies. We decided to ride Sunday, weather permitting.
Raining and cold this morning, so we decided to do chores and check back around noon. Yup - weather clearing. First, I stopped by and Taylor dismantled my fork and gave it the good ol' refresh. Tons of grease may have been gumming up the works.
Now this guy looks like a pro:

As you can see, the weather was rapidly clearing, so we loaded up the truck and took the arduous 7 minute drive to the canyon.

Parked in the canyon, rode/pushed up Stair Steps, dropped Rock-It, had a mishap and a subsequent mechanical. Got it straightened up, climbed Cholla, dropped Stair Steps where Mike from LCF was doing solo trail work, crossed the road, headed up Willow and ended with a run called TnA.
GREAT weather. Awesome riding partner and a fun selection of trails. BTW, Taylor is a different rider on that Bronson. Faster up and down, and more confident as well.
10.7 mi, around 2050' A million smiles! Taylor will probably throw a video together and tell his side of the story.
Oh and thanks Barnes for the fork refresh. It's definitely mo' bettah now bru!
