I Rode My Bike Today...

Rode the 2024 AL ALY tube about 7 miles high. I was in Upstate NY doing an awesome 60 mile commute. My coworkers decided it would be fun to stop at a micro brew on the way home. I was like fun for whom? Well it turns out they were having a cyclocross event. I asked one dude whom had flatted on the tubeless ride and he said "NO, ITS A MTN BIKE RACE! LOOK THERE IS NO 2 in the world" . #2 was heading out around the small hops garden. Well I had fun watching east coast riders. They were all riding small rings and 11-32's. They would come by and I wanted to shout SHIFT>SHIFT. But that is all a set of small rings will put out. I went to the control tent sponsored by a local bike shop. I was thinking sponsor a race, lets check out the rentals. No, none of that. I did a quick judge of topographical climbs, I estimated about 400 feet, probably -70 ft for the trees. The rider I was talking to said its not the climbs (obviously) it is the rocks. I said probably the roots too. They told me there were a few places to ride back there so next trip I may buy a Wallyworld bike and donate it to a church when I am done since it does not seem like a mtn bike mecca to me. We had dinner and my coworkers were not pleased with the brews (they made about 12-15). I was very pleased with the scene and drove home completely sober.
Happy upstate forested NY trails

I rode my bike yesterday, a quick run because I had a little afternoon obligation.

Married a beautiful woman that I love with all my heart! The wedding was short and sweet, but the reception was the most fun I've ever had at a party. Our very own @herzalot was there with his little miss Herzalot. She let loose and did some dancing too. I myself didn't take any photos ( a Little preoccupied :) ).
I present Mr and Mrs Danimal!

At the risk of a dizzying thread derail, here's one...

Dude! Congratulations! Now get off the internet. You're banned for the time being. :p:D

Today was my first ride since the Wrightwood Experience on June 9. I met up with @Cougar for a bit, but he had a short leash today, so we only did Rock-It and Lynx together. After bidding each other a fond(le?) farewell at the cars, I headed up to Five Oaks for a little extra credit. That was fun.

I knew the girls in my life were going to be gone most of the day, so even though I was getting tired, I didn't want to stop. Slogged up Cholla again to do another run on Lynx - but wait, how 'bout we throw a little somethin' somethin' in this ride, lest I don't get my fill of chunk? So I dropped down Stair Steps. Pushed back up (which really challenged my legs), then did Lynx again and called it a day. I was pretty tired just from that.

5 descents - about 2300' of climbing. Great weather - cloudy at first, then sunny and low 70s. Finished at Noon:30.

I won't get to ride again until next Sunday, July 1. June was weak for riding. Just 3 rides - one Whiting-Luge-Whiting lap, Wrightwood and today. Look out J and Steve, with saddle time like that, I will be crushing you in no time! :whistling:

Skyline/Shinsuit. Haven't ridden either in years. Met up with some friends, would be new dirt for some. Overcast skies kept the weather cool while climbing up Skyline. Social pace as usual. Made it to Beek's , no problems. Some including Vince would opt for the first B* single track and back up for some extra credit. I chose not to and headed up Main Divide with the others. Once at the Skinsuit point of entry some again would chose some more extra credit up to bag Hagador. This time I'd join. Great views at the top since the gloom burnt off. Back at Skinsuit ready the fun. Right at the beginning there was a mild crash. Vince's friend Cam got a little off balance but wasn't a thing. After a small climb, down the hill we went. Some were smiling, some were like WTF! Steep sections picked up the speed dramatically. Kind of loose here and there, got to stay focused. Regrouping a few times making sure everyone was accounted for. Vince's rear brake said "see ya later". I offered him my bike or a quick brake swap but he just continued on. More and more steepness ahead. Everyone smiling with excitement now. Continued on down. pertty smooth over all but the last steep section the dirt was like powder. Unfortunately here I would have to lay the bike down as I applied too much front brake and washed out. All good though, just left a little skin on Skinsuit (like you're supposed to do lol). Hopped back on to finish the descent. What a blast! Not exactly the trail I remember. Much more tame now but still have to go back to redeem myself. Heck, everyone wants to go back again. Ryan couldn't wait so he climbed the last section of steeps and came down them a second time. Great ride. 12/3100.

Only took one pic. Spot the rider.

Neat! Glad to see that it wasn't turned into a fire break, like I thought last year.

Will Vincent have some video of it?

Rode SkyPark today. Really fun. I could ride Arrow and Neverland Jumpline all day. :D I ended up doing both of them four times each. Sleigh Ride and whatever it turns into after the fire rode twice, Comet, Emerald, and Deck The Halls once each. 20.57 miles and 3,988 feet. Upgraded to the season pass after, so I need to get up there at least 4 more times in the next year to make that worthwhile ... I just wish it was closer.

When we were up there last year right after the fire, it had piles of bulldozed dirt at the top as far as you could see from the entrance... I didn't think it would be a rideable trail again.
Wow, what a mess. Maybe that was done after the fire to keep vehicles from driving down it, or even hikers and riders from using it. I'm glad, too, there's a trail through there now, though I think the top used to be smooth and fast.

The rest looks like standard fire break-- scraped ridgetop to help keep a fire from spreading.

FWIW, the STT had obstructions like that at the junction with Cadillac, and the top of the Motorway had high berms, both presumably to prevent vehicle access.

Motorway still does.

LCWP/El Moro today again
Climb up to ridge park, Lizard, Upper Laurel, Old Emerald, then Emerald Canyon down to the gate, climb out, back to Ridge Park, then flying down the hill :D
Emerald Canyon ST was as always deserted. If it wasnt an out and back, that trail would be so popular...bit of poison oak though there, be careful

Not always deserted. I once had a head on collision on that trail ... while on the "uphill" and with a bell ringing. I am 99% sure he was stopped dead center around a blind corner, but can't prove it as my Strava went out about 50 yards prior, of course.
